Lifeson's real name is Zivowynozitch (not very rock'n roll name
Toronto is the biggest Polish city outside of Poland if you count descencency of immigrants. But if you count illegal immigrant , half of Poland is working "bootleg" in Brussels. There are more Polish auto license plates there than Belgian ones. Why am I laughing at this ?!? Edited by Sean Trane |

I can't think of a single other progger who faced/done jail time.
Maybe that's because we're too urbane and thoughtful... |

Yes, why are you laughing at this Actually most Poles drink the same kind of non-moonshine vodka most foreigners are so crazy about when they come here and most of these foreigners are very surprised when they offer me a vodka, and I turn out to be a non-drinker unlike most of my countrymen. Alex is of Balkan origin, Serb or Croat, I'm not sure. Surnames ending with -ich point at either a Balkan or Russian descent. In Alex's case it's definitely the former. It's Geddy Lee who has Polish roots. And when a country invades Belgium, kills off 25% of its inhabitants, puts another 25% in concentration camps, destroys 80% of the industry and then gives it over to another country which introduces communism for some 50 years, killing off what remained of Belgium's political and intellectual elite, and Belgium gets only 15 years to recover, then we'll talk about people working "bootleg", all right? |

Alex name is Zivojinovich and his parents came from Yugoslavia. I am sure you would like to withdraw : "Toronto is the biggest Polish city outside of Poland if you count descencency of immigrants. But if you count illegal immigrant , half of Poland is working "bootleg" in Brussels. There are more Polish auto license plates there than Belgian ones. Why am I laughing at this ?!? In deference to our Polish friends and members with polish ancestry..... Edited by Reed Lover |

Hi Manukind, Sorry for taking so long to answer to your angry response but I escape often on long WE in the Ardennes. My post was careless
In fact , there are thousands Polish men illegally(no work permit) in Belgium , most of them working illegally and for damn poor wages and being sort of exploited and hurting the Belgian economy/ social welfare system (loss of taxes) with this . Those illegals workers (recognized as good hard workers, though ) drink some of the worse stuff I was ever given to taste. Some of them go blind because of these bad alcohols brewed in squats/abandonned buildings. Their status and bad conditions is what I meant about laughing (nervously) at this, as opposed to denoucing the conditions they are in.
As for Toronto, Poles descendant are very numerous but very well integrated but are also known for their hard-drinking habits and I have witnessed many(between 10 and 15) illegal moonshine distilleries in backyards but this was also seen as cool stuff by teen-agers. However, some friends experienced temporary blindness from that stuff. I must say that those illegals distilleries were not always run by Polish descendants but there was always a few involved. They also ran some booze camps (after hours illegal bars) but by all means this does not make all Polish people drunkards or smugglers. I certainly was careless in not pointing that out. Alex is of Balkan origin, Serb or Croat, I'm not sure. Surnames ending with -ich point at either a Balkan or Russian descent. In Alex's case it's definitely the former. It's Geddy Lee who has Polish roots. I stand corrected on this but was actually convinced about those fact since I was a teen-ager. As for your remark about the war and communism in Poland, it is clear that Poland is the biggest victim in Europe of the consequences of war. I will point out with amusement that most people are surprised that you are non-drinker unlike most poles just like I prefer wine to beer and I am Belgian. A shame. Please at least accept my apologies about a careless and quickly written post. Edited by Sean Trane |

How about these: (all people who some of my friends know/have met) Ryan Barley (think about it..!) Ivor Beard Jenny Taylor (think about it..!) Ollie Wood Will Lee and lastly two figures from history: Wang Kon (a Korean king) Mustapha Camel (an Egypytian politician, I believe. I couldn't quite believe it when I read it though, and I can't find the information as well, so it might be made up...) |
