As kind of a counterpart to the "What are you currently listening to" thread, I thought I'd start one about what songs we are currently trying to learn. Here are mine (I play guitar):

Clap- by Steve Howe off The Yes Album (an awesome acoustic number)

Animate-Rush (off the Counterparts album)

all of "The Wall"-Pink Floyd

Trilogy by ELP - I can just about pass it off (minus improv, or at least decent improv!) but only on piano - still getting used to changing patches and using effects on keyboard,

The Sheriff by ELP - in the beginning stages

Mad Man Moon and One for the Vine by Genesis - sound awesome in the bits I can play right, lots of work to be done though.

Stop me from dreaming?
Okay :-(

Heart of the Sunrise and South Side of the Sky- Yes

21st Century Schizoid Man, In The Court..., Red, and Starless- KC

The band I was in back in the 80's used to do a verion of YYZ but I always used to count if off too fast and I remember the looks of death I'd get from the band as their fingers worked away in a frantic blur of hyper speed.

Bless them.

If you can't do a song at least 10bpm faster than the original, you shouldn't be playing it!

I'm having trouble working out some Nick Drake songs...seems easy until you realize he tuned his guitar differently for almost every song. Even worse than Jimmy Page!

Hi All,

Our band is currently working on "Dance of Eternity" by Dream Theater (hard song to get down). Other songs we cover are As I am, Stream of Consciousness, Endless Sacrifice, New Millenium, Trial Of Tears, Lines in the Sand and quite a few others. I find its a real challenge to learn Myung's stuff, we also do alot of Rush songs some Satriani etc...

Yeah, I can't play those fast fills, they're ridiculous. The ones at the beginning of YYZ and at the beginning of The Spirit of Radio are f**king out of this world! How the hell does he pull that sh*t off!?!? But hey, practice makes perfect... I've also been working on Closer to the Heart, which is significantly easier... and I've made much progress on the instrumental section of Freewill as well.

You should try Anthem... that's a wicked song on bass. The Fountain of Lamneth is also pretty cool.

I'm struggling with the piano intro to Genesis Firth of Fifth.

Hey Rock Chick, I used to play Firth of Fifth in a band I was in, "Mozart's Tights".

Luckely for me I am the guitarist lol.

Our keyboardist was always playing it perfect at practice, when it come to the gig he would always mess it up lol.

What band are you in?
