 Topic: Short lived bands

So I finally shifted my eyes to the upper right of the homepage, just to see why this one album was being displayed. The band is Comus and it mentions them being an early folk prog band. I like folk prog, might as well check it out. I click on the album cover, which takes me to that album. What do you know, there is an mp3 just waiting for me. So I download, then I listen. Holy crap, this "Song to Comus" song is fantastic. I can definitely see myself when the album is rereleased in April.
Now you see, normally, I don't bother checking out these bands with less than 4 albums. I guess I just figure, they probably weren't that great. So I just skip over them on this site. Now I knew this was a mistake when I was doing it, just wanted to save myself some time. So, what other short lived bands should I be checking out?

There are loads of band with few albums to their credits.
If you loved Comus (it is me that wrote the review for the homepage - taken from my review), you might want to check out The Trees. At least this featured group made at least one new fan for Comus
Early 70's UK proto-prog groups are legions with only a few albums to their credits; You might check out Audience and Gnidrolog if you like Hammill style harsh vocals and good musicianship.
Cressida is for people that enjoy Caravan and Camel . Gravy Train & Gracious are also worth checking out. Etc..... Loads of them.... Some yet to be included in the Archives.(Titus Groan , Raw Material)
About a week ago there was a thread about Obscure Prog. You might want to check the names out on it.

well, i guess it is also important that these bands have an mp3 available somewhere, i stopped blindly purchasing albums

Comus... Drool. So freaking good!
What about Burnt Noodle? Anybody like them? I've never heard them, but
I want to get their album, partially because the name is grwat, and it
sounds interesting.

There is a massive italian scene full of awesome one/two-shot bands.
Just to name a few with mp3 samples on this site: Quella Vecchia
Locanda, Museo Rosenbach, Semiramis, Locanda Delle Fate, Il Volo,
Pierrot Lunaire, Alusa Fallax, Maxophone, Alphataurus

Quite a lot of short lived bands did just one or two good albums and then split - it's better than becoming boring. Some of my favourites:
Hatfield and the North (2 studio albums)
National Health (2 studio albums)
Egg (3 studio albums)
UK (2 studio albums)
Some of the above have had live material and/or out takes issued after their demise, but all of them quit while they were ahead.

Check out Indian Summer and Bubu, although I heard that obtaining an album by the latter band borders on the miraculous.

T2 is a personal favourite of mine ... though I can't submit an mp3 seeing as I own a worn out taped copy ...
Aphrodite's Child ... you can get either a compilation for an overview
of their 3 albums or go straight to the ground-breaking 666 album
Colosseum also come to mind ... Valentyne Suite's the one to get ...
Aussie group Blackfeather's At The Mountain of Madness is a very
interesting one-off ... although the group changed personnel and
continued in a totally different style under the same name ... I'll be
submitting details and mp3s on them pretty soon ...

You buy their albums and then explore more italian found here: Corte Dei
Miracoli, Campo Di Marte, Metamorfosi, Biglietto Per L'inferno, Cervello
Edit: oops, I read "what do I get next" 
Museo Rosenbach, Quella Vecchia Locanda (any of their two) are both
great starters, although all those bands are terrific.
