My 'girlfriend' is married to me, so unfortunately she doesn't have a choice in the matter! Over the years she has grown to like it, or at least 'tolerate' it.

Unfortunately, my wife doesn't like much of what I like in music whether I choose prog, hard rock, classical or even a spattering of metal. She likes pop, loves Elvis Presley (obviously a great artist but not my cup of tea) and has even been known to listen to country ---aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

My girlfriend was already a self proclaimed Nerd/Geek so prog was just a natural progression fior her.  As she said it was music that "I felt I had been missing all my life".   We tend to like similar things with Kansas, Some ELP, All of Gabriel era Genesis, some newer stuff like The Flower Kings, Nima and Merge, and Proto-Kaw. Although her background comes from Jazz like Diana Krall and soundtracks, mine is more from hard rock and classical.

Lots still to explore with her and listen too.

Do you have a prog loving boyfriend?

Or are you such a prog nerd that no one will go near you??

Actually I have been dating someone for about a month now. His music tastes suck! Cher, Madonna, George Micheal, Culture Club, Broadway Musicals....you know...the typical gay music.....Needless to say....he hates my music as well.

P.S.....I am currently listening to Peel the Paint by Gentle Giant...I am sure he would run in terror if he heard this. We generally agree not to listen to music when together. He says my music has no pop sensibilities. How gay is that?

No marathon Bette Midler and Barry Manilow sessions?  and you call yourself gay.

Does he look anything like this?

'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

My wife will tolerate Floyd occasionally. Likes Japan era Sylvian, but otherwise wont entertain prog or my other musical bent electronica.

Hey Gdub - is it like a rite of passage for gay men to
go through the whole Judy Garland, showtunes,
Madonna, Kylie thing?
Seems like a lot of gay people buty into it the same
way white middle class teenagers buy into 'gangsta
rap' . You're obviously an exception but are you
indicative of gay musical diversity or are you the big
leper at the Kylie/Judy/Maddy fest?

As for my missus - she can't stand prog - she
accused me last week of rotating the car CD
changer to PFM's Per Un Amico on purpose
'hahahah, this music is always on when I get in the
car, you must really love it,' she said through gritted
teeth.
Fact was the rest of the cds were genesis,
proto-kaw, gentle giant, steve hillage and more PFM,
I just figured Per Un Amico was the least offensive

she will admit to liking Pink Floyd and tiny bits of Yes
but when I put on Relayer I thought she might throw
the contents of the cutlery drawer at me.

However, whilke she doesn't like prog, she generally
has excellent taste in music opting for Radiohead,
Massive Attack, Bjork and loves most of the other
electronica I like (Mum, Fourtet etc). And she's even
started to admit that Zeppelin are really good. (she
was a GNR nut as a kid)

Unfortunately, as she's Mexican she has a terrible
fascination for bad latin american music too and
even makes me listen to ancient mariachi songs.

Then again with all these weird latin and prog and
alternative influences swirling around maybe I could
get a job with The Mars Volta
