Well they're all great. I was choosing between Led Zeppelin I, ITCOTCK & The Moody Blues' To Our Childrens'.... I opted for the latter. That's just my personal preference. When I bought it a couple of years ago, I think it was absolutely fantastic. Blew me away pretty much. Not many albums do that for me anymore

And Jesus said unto John, "come forth and receive eternal life..."
Unfortunately, John came fifth and was stuck with a toaster.

The real competition was between Led Zep I and ITCOTCK. The latter is highly overrated. It is good, but Moonchild pulls it down a lot and, besides, it didn't innovate that much. I voted for Zep, and no, I'm not shallow, but I feel that I'm just too young to appreciate Trout mask Replica.

I heard a Captain Beefheart album ('strickly personal') for the first time yesterday and I'm still recovering I had no idea what to expect to be honest.
I voted for Ummagumma but Tommy would be a close second.

You haven't heard Led Zep II?
I totally envy you - I remember distinctly the first time I heard it...
You'll be back here declaring it a prog album of the highest magnitude! (it's not, it's amazingly progressive rock, but not prog).
Tip: For the first listen ever, make sure everyone including the neighbours and the cat are out, then crank up the stereo to 11 before letting that baby rip.
You'll thank me
/edit:
Oh, and the best album of 1969 is...
UMMAGUMMA.

Ummagumma is great, but "several species.." is utterly unlistenable.
I go with ZEPPELIN 1!!

I
I love the record & the cover. There was a Deluxe version made of very hard carboard and two black ribbons on the side to bind together the gatefold cover.I think the lady, who is crawling out of the tank was a friend of the Zappas and was member of the GTO's . Miss Christine? She was also friend with good old Alice Cooper.

The tip remains the same - and I'm just as jealous; I can hardly imagine not having heard Led Zep I, III or IV either

True that. The first time I heard Zeppelin 1 was great, because it was on vinyl, and the sound quality was excellent, very loud too, which is of course best.

Had to be ZepII for me, although Hot Rats is a close joint second with ITCOTCK. I often forget what a good year that was rock music, things were really changing.
I voted Led Zep II mainly on the strength of 'Whole lotta love' and 'Thankyou' two of the greatest rock songs ever IMO.

"Several Species..." has a sublime beauty, rhythm and vocabulary - if you're in the right "head space"
