so I am listening to Recycled right now, and goddamn it is fantastic.  Easily one of the most exciting albums that I own.  5 stars, without a doubt.

I think one of my favorite parts about Nektar is they write such great riffs.  And they are so good that they tease you in parts of the song.  During parts of the song, you feel them build up to something, then take it away.   They may do this a few times, but when they break out that riff, you're like "oh yyyyeah."  This is probably more how I feel about Remember the Future and A Tab in the Ocean.

I think I liked that band more now, after I saw them live in NYC last year.  First time a band has ever done that for me.  I don't believe they had any stage effects, but what a presence.

The next albums I mean to pick up are the Eye one and Sound Like This, how are they.  Also, how is their new album, I heard a few sound clips and was impressed.

Ahh gosh yes, they have some awesome riffs alright. I just bought A Tab in the Ocean off of Amazon.  There are so many awesome riffs spread throughout the title track, and then of course "Crying in the Dark" with that wah wah opening and then that seriously awesome main riff.  Nektar is probably one of my all time favorite prog bands now. I really need to check out more of their stuff.

Aaron:

I would actually suggest Down to Earth.  Although it is more "song-y" than Remember the Future or Recycled, it is absolutely outstanding.

I saw Nektar live twice in their heyday (1975 and 1976).  They were unbelievable.  I then saw them on their Prodigal Son tour (2002), with Larry Fast, and they were spectacular.

Also, don't forget to check out the interview with Roye Albrighton in the Interviews thread.

Peace.

mandrake:

Actually, they did quite a bit.  They did All of Remember the Future, the first half of Recycled, Astral Man, and Kings of Twilight.

Peace.

Excellent - must have been a great show - the Live in New York lp's are two of my favourites of Nektar's. What a Band.

For fans of "Remember The Future"-era Nektar, I can fully reccomend an LP: "The Alchemist" by a band called Home - its very similar in mood - also has a kind of narrative aswell (though a loose one) - but is a brilliant little LP. Has the most catchy guitar riff as well - fans of the LP will know what I mean.

All I know Aaron is that they did two LP's for CBS in the early 70s - one called "Home" and the next one called The Alchemist CBS S 65550. A friend has the first one which is more song based - The Alchemist is a concept LP based on a book called "The Dawn of Magic." I think its available on CD - I'm not sure what the situation in America is - but being on CBS Id imagine it had a CD release.

Its a very pleasant melodic prog / rock LP and I'm gonna put it on right now as its a perfect Sunday morning, cup of tea experience.
