Have you ever seen a sitcom orTV program where a prog' band or artist is mentioned?

A short time ago I was awake at 2:30 am so started to watch a bit of TV, they were showing an old episode of Dharma & Greg, exactly the one they meet, and it goes more or less like this:

Dharma: What music do you like Greg?

Greg: I listen Genesis, Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel.

Dharma: Don't you like any musician that hasn't been member of Genesis?

Greg: What,  Peter Gabriel played with Genesis????

I started to laugh at that time and my sister who was visiting and was awake downstairs asked me what was so funny, I told her the story but she never understood it.

The final episode of Friends started with a long clip of past moments synchonized to KE9-1-2. They acutally did a really good job of it.

In That 70's show the rock references are ordinary matters, and among them sometimes they talk about prog bands.

Ewan mair provincial -mebbe few remembers local Hamilton,Ontario station program, Hilarious House Of Frightenstein? Wiv Billy Van an' dems ewan hook'd t'Maister, Vincent Price in somehows.
Weel, thar wert the Wolfman DJ pairt on evray show -wiv t'psycherdeleric lightshow bit. Certes they musta did some prog there! Cannae remembers - me brainpan hoorts! Dem "leetle" grey cells...

I have dozens of references for Rush, eg:

Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, the animated television series, Dec. 30, 2000-
Part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim lineup along with "Sealab 2021" and "Aqua Teen Hunger Force": all have had Rush references.

  • "Blackwatch Plaid" (#10, aired Jan 1, 2004): The security level in Harvey's office building is raised to "Moving Pictures", their highest level, and displayed the Moving Pictures album cover. Click here to view a 1:29 segment from the episode (it is recommended downloading it to your desktop first).
  • "Peanut Puberty" (#17, aired June 6, 2004): When Peanut is called to the blackboard in class, he uses his binder to hide his "arising" event of "superty", and on his binder is a RUSH sticker - the logo from the first album.

Trailer Park Boys Trailer Park Boys, the television series, aired May 18th, 2003
"Bubbles is so devastated about not getting tickets to the RUSH concert that Ricky decides to bring Alex Lifeson (played by Alex Lifeson) to the park to perform a private concert." One scene of the episode was filed during the October 22nd, 2002, Vapor Trails concert at Toronto's Air Canada Centre, as actor Mike Smith, who portrays Bubbles on the Nova Scotia, Canada, based comedy series, was filmed playing the part of a Rush roadie. As he walked on stage to hand Alex a new guitar, Geddy told the crowd "he is a new guy." Actor Mike Smith commented "I was a bit nervous up there. I mean, it's dark, and I can't see, and I'm stepping over cables and stuff...Alex is a big fan of the show...Alex came to us and asked to do a cameo. The director was like, 'No, but why don't we write a whole episode based around you?' And he was totally into that. So we flew him out to Halifax and we shot with him for three days and had really great times. He's a really amazing person." - (TorontoStar.com. Oct. 28, 2002). The final scene of the episode features Alex and Bubbles playing "Closer To The Heart" on dual acoustic guitars.

Alot of TV shows have referenced Rush, Mystery Science Theater being
one...and the latest being Aqua Teen Hunger Force that referenced
Geddy...with Meatwad doing his best impression of the synth part of Tom
Sawyer, quite funny

In Anthology of Interest, all Fry needs to defeat the invading aliens is a 2 litre bottle of soda, his walkman and his all Rush mix tape

In Obsoletely Fabulous Bender and co go on " a crusade against technology worthy of being chronicled in an anthem by Rush"

I saw an episode of The Simpsons where Bart changes the partiture of the church in cluding a song "In the Garden of Eden" with the music of In A Gadda da Vida (Not exactly prog but close) and it's very funny when the old lady of the organ does the 10 minutes solo, all the people in the church start to light their lighters and the poor lady fades., it washilarious.

On another Simpson episode, Homer acts as a freak for a Rock Festival, and casually opens a box from BTO (I believe)  and a pink pig rises into the air, Randy Bachman starts to cry saying, Homer, we bought this in a sale from Pink Floyd.

Yes Mirco because they are transmited by FOX for Latin America, but I always use the SAP (Second Audio Program) feature to watch the show in English, probably your TV has it and if Simpson are transmited by Fox I'm sure it will work.

For the ones who don't know, Mexican translators have the brilliant idea to change the name of the characters and the referenses, for example if someone talks about Pamela Anderson, they change the reference to Lucía Mendez or Thalia (Cheesy Mexican Soap artists).

In the King of the Hill, they call the kid Beto Reyes and the guy who's wife has an American Indian lover Benavides, this makes no sense at all, there's no redneck with a latin surname. I can't understand why Mexicans who always do the translations still continue with this crap.

But it's even worst, when somebody sings for example Singing in the Rain, they try to translate the lyrics, but they make a mess because you can't even recognize the tune (Literal translations are impossible in music), try to use the singing in the rain melody with something like "Estoy cantando bajo la lluvia".

I'ts even worst when the translation is done by Spanish people, because their accent is so repulsive, I've seen a James Bond movie where Sean Connery says: "Pues hombre, mi nombre es Bond, Jaime Bond"

This is something I can't stand, so I only watch stations that have SAP or those that have written subtitles.

Yes Useful he was Peter Frampton, I hoped you could check this because due to your Simpsons experience I was sure you would remember and as I mentioned I was not sure if it was BTO (Do they also appear in the show ?).

Hey Musical Box, do you remember the South Park episode about Phil Collins, they brainwashed the kids so they could like the boring Phil Collins, they insult the shorty at least 20 times during the half hour.

That Episode of South Park is classic, made shortly after Phil Collins beat the South Park lads to that best original song oscar

And yeah, i think BTO do feature in that Simpsons episode (I think)

In the last episode of Cheers ,Diane (the ex-barmaid) comes back to the bar and tries to impress the barman Sam (Ted Danson) by saying she has been working for a law firm.''Who's that?'' asks Sam.''Um Emerson,Lake and ......Palmer'' replies Diane.

In the British comedy film 'Once Upon A Time In The Midlands' the main character is a country and western fan.His wife laments that he used to be a lot less trouble when he was a progressive rock fan! If you watch the credits at the end ,their 2 sons are named Emerson and Lake!!

On Reno 911, after Officer Dangle gets done playing a little ditty about the dangers of crystal meth on his acoustic guitar to  a highschool class he says "Does anybody have any questions? I don't know what it was for, but on the BBC I saw a trailer last night for a programme and there was a band; one of the members said "Rick Wakeman may be your God, but concept albums are out!" or something similar.

On an episode of a cop show which I think has already been cancelled... Boomtown, the producer must of been an ELP fan, because one of them was named Palmer.. and during one episode while a young boy was killing his bikini clad young neighbor... Tarkus was playing really loud in the background on a turntable that they kept showing... However, they should of had better continuity.. because the 33rpm recond they kept showing on the turntable was a "Decca" record.. and ELP were never on Decca...
