I'll download samples off the next one, and if it's good, buy it!
Maybe it's wrong to download music, but it's definitely wrong to release a terrible album!
Also, the latest Rush I quite like what I've heard, I'd give that a listen.

This doesn't really happen to me, since with most of the bands I listen to I discovered their whole discography at once. If you get what I mean...

Signals was the most commercial sounding album IMO. A good album, though.
Personally I thought Grace Under Pressure, Presto and Counteparts were all far superior albums to Signals, and less commercial.
I would like to say that I dont bother with a bands later releases if they make a stinker, but I cant really argue that as I have all Genesis albums up to 'Calling all stations' So, despite having hated every moment of Invisible touch I went back for more.
Therefore I'm voting that I have to have the lot...

I'm afraid I'm one of those who never loses hope. Even if a once great artist puts out stinker after stinker I go on buying the albums in the hope of a return to glory days. (Fish anyone?  )

Later stuff , of course cannot be as fresh and immediate(sincere) as the first few albums, there are exceptions that confirms the rule but I generally stck with the early stuff but still look out for later albums - I would've missed out on Supertramp's Brother Where You Bound? album if I had not - but have a close listen to it first. So I voted option 1

i voted for option number three. yet this does not apply to pink floyd. the final cut was a stinker after the wall. and they never got better!

I find myself being stupidly loyal to bands that have long since ceased
to produce anything of worth. Puppy dog loyal at times. I own all the
entire Genesis back catalogue including 'Calling All Stations' which I
purchased (as promised Blacksword) yesterday. Every now and again, I
can hear an echo of former glories in their music but unhappily, if
they released an album of on-tour fart tapes this saddo git would
probably buy it! 
Other bands that I would buy new/unreleased product from without hesitation:
Pink Floyd
King Crimson
ELO
Stars Of The Lid
The Police/Sting
Pat Metheny
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Jeff Buckley
XTC
Sonic Youth
I'm sure there are more but I have to nip out and bark enthusiastically at a cat up a tree.

I'm a collectionist for the most part. But I generally find one or two tunes that I like on any album. Big Generator had Shoot High Aim Low, which I like. It's the only thing that keeps it in the collection.
I had Love Beach on vinyl, but never bothered with the CD version, maybe I'm not all that completist.

Yes get's bashed for the Rabin era, but I like 90125, Union and Talk. Big Generator just sounded soooooo "false." No real FEELING and horrid production. Rhythm of Love? C'mon, get serious!
