I am a bit new to the prog-world. I have been searching for various CDs by prog artists and I have noticed most retailers are not prog friendly. The few prog CDs I find are usually overpriced ($25-$30 for albums that are only single disc.) I was wondering if internet orders are the best bet for finding prog albums. Do any large retailers carry varities of prog?

I don't know where you live but if you live in Berkley, San Francisco, or Hollywood you can check out Amoeba Music, which is the best music store in existence.

Amazon has never let me down. If I cant find what I want at co.uk I can usually find it at .com.

I very rarely go into record shops, unless they are independant, and stock loads of second hand vinyl. There's a good one near me, but apart from that they are few and far between.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

muh ha ha ha ha  my local record store is very prog friendly. we can get brand new prog albums, mostly any albums by any artist really cheap at £6.99. and for those who work in dollars, just trust me, its very very cheap compared to most prices.

yet i still cant find a place in the UK that sells dream theater albums. well you find the odd one but normally the prices are outrageous. and whenever i order DT off the internet they never arrive! WHY IS THE WORLD DENYING ME OF ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BANDS??? and why dont they sell them in england even though they have a massive fan base over here?!

Me too. Most Genesis go for 7.00$ Canadian. The wall was selling for 20, and the 2 van der Graaf Generator albums I just ordered were only 17.00$. JUSt to give you an idea.

I'm from Grimsby on the East coast in Lincolnshire. In the centre of town there is:
an HMV (not very big)
a Virgin (smaller still, and bloody expensive)
a second-hand shop which isn't too bad, occaisionally I've picked up stuff I've wanted (VdGG for example)
and an independent shop that opened recently that I haven't been in yet. But it specialises in hardcore haha so I doubt I'll find all that much I want.

Yeah, trade-in record stores will be your best way to go, and the net will be your oft-used backup.

welcome to the site by the way, and nice buddy icon!

Nebraska is a horrible place to try and find prog....

I usually can find all the more well known bands around here like Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Kansas, ELP but other than that I have to resort to Amazon.

This is getting too ridiculous. Yer from nuuk Greenland. It's spelled nyuk, as in:

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.
