I really can't understand why people say The Beatles are overrated- their contribution to music is undeniable, and still sounds great today, especially amongst assorted rip off merchants and dull indie bands of today...

I like doors, but it suffered a little inflation, as it was played so much during my youth. I was at highschool, when Oliver Stone's "The Doors" movie was released in Finland, and this movie made their music very popular among the youth.

I think that Doors wasn't so popular at Finland as it was elsewhere, when Morrison was still alive?

Great band, with one of the greatest vocalists that ever walked the earth, but I don't think there is too much genuine prog- the proggiest moment I've ever heard by them is 'Spanish Caravan', but I don't think songs like 'The End' or 'Light My Fire' are progressive just because they are long.

I suppose you could argue they were 'proto prog' in a sense, though- they were definitely one of the first pop/rock bands to utilise keyboards.

They had proggy moves, escpecially live. They fall into the category of psych/proto prog bands. Most these bands were in existence before the term was coined;Spirit,Greatful Dead,Yardbirds,Procol Harum,It's a Beautiful Day,ect...

The Doors were very good musicians, IMO. My favourite album from them is "Strange Days".But I don`t consider them as Prog Rock.

Another favorite band of mine.My wife is heavily into them, and we have a few books of Jim Morrison's poetry around here.I love JM's imagery in his lyrics,Densmore's jazzy drumming,Manzarek's excellent keyboard work and Robbie Kriegers fluid guitar playing.I am also surprised they aren't mentioned more on this forum, for I feel their music contains quite a few progressive elements.I also like their debut and Strange Days.Morisson Hotel is another favorite, with a great bluesy sound.

I've always liked the doors, but i rarely hear them mentioned on this site.. i was wondering whats the average prog fan's thoughts about this band? I personally love the band, their self titled debut and Strange Days are both very good albums, and have quite a few progressive moments in my opinion.

Thoughts?
