None of those 5 - I'd go for Chris Stewart, who left after 'From Genesis To Revelation' anf wound up farming in Andalucia. He wrote a really interesting book about it, Driving Over Lemons.

I am completely unable to vote...

Even though I like early Genesis, I almost never listen to it. I suppose that I require a certain mood to listen to Genesis and I'm never in such a mood when I'm at home... And many a group comes before Genesis in my list (Gentle Giant, Jade Warrior, even Wigwam, to name a few).

Listening - and I mean REALLY LISTENING - to music is rather time consuming. I'm only capable to actively listen to music for 2 hrs max. After that, my ears need a break. If music is played in the background, it drives me almost insane... I hate to go shopping because of that fraking background noise all over, even in the freaking grocery store or chemists (if I'm lucky), not even to mention bars and restaurants... It's really amazing how many Norah Jones' songs I could sing by heart before I listened to her 1st album for the first time (and I never - I mean NEVER - listen to radio).

Sorry, maybe not the right thread for this one...

-Beau

I agree with you!

I voted for Mike, cause he shouldn't be left out altogether!Cry

Genesis were very much more than the sum of the parts though, each time you take one away, you lose a lot more.

I picked Phil Collins ... certainly not because of the way he watered down
the band in the 80s and 90s, but rather because he's truly one of the
world's best drummers. His drumming adds so much to the music of
albums like Selling England, Lamb, Trick, and Wind.

Mategra: I actually find some enjoyable songs on 'Invisible Touch' and 'Calling All Stations', but very few. I would consider those the worst two Genesis albums. And I do like 'Abacab' more than most people, so I'm not an anti-trio Genesis fan or anything...but it's cool to hear an opinion like yours that isn't more of the usual Gabriel-era sycophantic raving (like me!)

Chester Thompson: great drummer. Daryl Stuermer:great guitarist.

More seriously... I think that everybody was important from the most important members (Banks, Collins, Gabriel, Hackett, Rutherford), but I think that without Tony Banks, the band couldn`t sound the same. He was, maybe the most harder to replace. His keyboards are very much in the centre of the sound and style of the band.

Yes, well I did end up voting for Tony, but then, what would Genesis have been without him? It was really a draw between him, Steve and Peter though - a very tough decision! And poor Mike! While he, like Phil, made some bad decisions, his bass, 12-string, and bass-pedal playing were just incredible, and also, for those of us who love Trick of the Tail, he and Tony co-wrote Squonk and Ripples, which are superb songs, so it's not as if his writing skills were non existant... and look at Foxtrot, and look at the Giant Hogweed!

ANYHOW! Genesis was simply an amazing band, what can I say?

No, I'm absolutely serious. That's my opinion and I'm not ashamed of it.

Invisible Touch and Calling all Stations are definitely not trash. Personally I like them much better than Gabriel's low points Us and OVO.

And I must admit that I think that Wilson's voice sounds better than ol' Collins.

Are you being, er...ironic??

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
