England tried being a republic (1649-1660) and it didn't work.

If you yanks are so happy why do you have such a cult for the Brittish royals going on. A princess farts and you make a miniseries about it. Everyday the Mall gets clogged up with American tourists, 'cause say what you like, Brad and Jennifer just don't have the same allure. You Americans are more fond of our royals than we are, 'cause like history, you ain't got none! nuh nuh na nuhnuh with nobs on.

I suppose you mean all Yanks by "you Yanks".  Only the people who read People magazine and watch Oprah Winfree and believe it fit into your Royal Hopper of crap. They would also care about Jennifer and Brad too.  Others of us have better things to do. Your mall I think is more like Disneyland. Maybe your queen (Prince Charles) should wear mouse ears and big white gloves.  I would pay a dollar to see that once.

As for our history all you need to do is watch the Simpsons. But then again I would rather have no history than be history.

Europe is past its prime!

These guys serve no purpose anymore other than to follow some silly tradition that has long over stayed its welcome. Why not uprise and toss these pampered, wastes of skin to the curb and tell them to get a real job?

These guys are just a tax burdon to you guys and civilization has moved on....I say into the woodchipper with them!

NB: the party he was at was called something like "Bad Taste or What?". Which doesn't excuse it, but at least goes some way to explain it.

All you non Brits out there need to realise that the continued existence of the British monarchy is basically your fault. True, a sizeable chunk of the British populace have something of a blind spot where the Royals are concerned, but their pre eminent position is largely down to the fact that they're the world's favourite soap opera. The sooner tourists stop flocking to London to watch the changing of the guard, and newspapers from Bahrain to Kalamazoo stop printing pictures of the princes falling off horses, chatting up lapdancers and lashing out at the paparazzi as though the antics of a couple of profoundly dull young men are in any way newsworthy, the sooner they'll fade into a kind of semi obscurity. Once the rest of the world falls out of love with them we may not become a republic, but the royals will be downsized to going to work on a bike and opening vicarage garden parties.

And while we're on the subject of anachronistic dynasties, you ex colonial upstarts from across the pond should be keeping an eye on your own ruling houses. George Bush II is scary enough, but if you follow the precedent of the British monarchy you should do everything in your power to prevent the possibility of George Bush III. Our George III was a bad mistake.

The theme of the party was actually Europeans and Colonials, which raises the disturbing possibility that no one has told these chinless halfwits that we don't have an empire any more (except the one in Shepherd's Bush of course).

I don't understand what the problem is.

Britain has a Royal family, and tourists (especially from America) like to stuff loads of money into the British coffers to see them, their living quarters and their heritage. Get rid of them, and say "Bye-bye" to a stack of cash. Good idea.

NOT!!!

Who CARES if Prince Harry goes to a fancy dress party? I don't care about his costume - I find it very funny, and think that the PC brigade are out in force - the media especially making a huge meal out of it with their high and mighty tones. Why don't they piss off and leave the poor guy alone? He's just a regular kid at heart - and he can't help the family he's been born into. He does good stuff and bad stuff like other kids - I applauded when I read the stories about him going clubbing, throwing parties, getting drunk and smoking spliffs like normal people.

I would have thought that his grandfather would find it all incredibly amusing - Phil may be a liability to this country, but he's a practically guaranteed laugh, and keeps scores of diplomats in jobs.

Harry's timing makes his joke all the more funny - and it should be taken as a joke.

Sending him to Auschwitz and forcing him to watch all kinds of films is OTT, IMO - although a visit to Auschwitz would be fascinating, and probably deeply humbling. It shouldn't be used as a PUNISHMENT for him enjoying himself.

He's alright - the kids are alright.

What he needs an education in is prog music

One of the criticisms aimed at the Royals is that they are stuffy elitist bores who have nothing in common with their "subjects". Harry is a breath of fresh air imo and I'd wrap up a draw with the lad anytime he wants to pop over to the 'Dam.

He's a British Royal family member dressed as a Nazi - doesn't that have several layers of humour and irony in itself...?

If I'd been at that party and seen him, I'd have been in tears of laughter - it wasn't even a realistic costume - he was obviously taking the piss out of Nazis and himself.

I don't know - but why wouldn't he?

If he wasn't, wouldn't he have made more of an effort to make it realistic?

The theme of the party was "colonial and native" - and the Royal family has well-publicised German roots...

Personally I more alarmed at the amount of coverage the story is getting. Apparently the Daily Mail had over 5 pages on it the other day. Not sure what they found to say on the subject, that covered that much wasted paper.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

The resemblance is temptingly uncanny...

But come on, Reed - why do you think it was such a bad thing?
