Still haven't heard Steely Dan. Some of their albums sound intriguing though.

Steely Dan are/were an excellent band, but in my humble opinion, not prog rock

Giants of smooth, radio-friendly, blue-eyed soul. I'd bet that Becker & Fagan would scoff at the notion of their being "progressive rock."Stern Smile

The only references I have about this duet (well, it is really a duet since the mid 70s) is their song "Rikki don`t lose that number" or something like that. This song is still played in FM Radio stations in my country. I also saw them in their "VH1 Storytellers"  TV Programme. I don`t consider them as Prog, but they have some influences from jazz-rock.

The excellent first album "Can't Buy A Thrill" is hard to beat.

Rikki, Don't Lose that Number... was actually written for Rick Derringer who helped produce some of there albums.. and even played on a few...

I've got the complete works of Steely Dan up to Aja, and I bow to none in my admiration for their musical and lyrical sophistication, their intricate arrangements and the phenomenal standards of musicianship throughout their work.

But it ain't prog.

Every note is a prog note... (provided that it is followed and preceded by tons of other prog notes)

No, of course not, but a great band, one of my all time favourites, and Donald Fagen's solo albums are also excellent.

Not prog; but a wildly talented band nonetheless. Fagen and Becker work
perfectly together.

Fagen's new solo album is excellent. I would go as far to say that it's better
than SD's 2vsN and Everything Must Go. Fagen's The Nightfly is still the best,
though.
