^ That only prevents it from affecting your own new posts.

I'd suggest it may be worth considering disabling the *WYSIWYG editor globally as it is a distraction when it turns up in other members' posts.

*it would seem to be more problematic than it is beneficial.
Is it any wonder that the monkey's confused?

This site is imploding. I can rarely post in the forum without the entire thing crashing several times. Same with personal messages. Add all the gobblety goop code that seems to be affecting more users and it seems that this site is finally collapsing due to its own neglect.< defer="" ="https://static.cloudflareinsights.com/beacon.min.js/vcd15cbe7772f49c399c6a5babf22c1241717689176015" integrity="sha512-ZpsOmlRQV6y907TI0dKBHq9Md29nnaEIPlkf84rnaERnq6zvWvPUqr2ft8M1aS28on72PdrCzSjY4U6VaAw1EQ==" -cf-beacon=""rayId":"930421978a4d5c21","Timing":"name":"cfExtPri":true,"cfL4":true,"cfSpeedBrain":true,"cfCacheStatus":true,"version":"2025.3.0","token":"717409392a644498b4dbcbfbeafd4181"" crossorigin="anonymous">

Maybe I need to make this topic a sticky in more fora: If you have unwanted code/script in your post (CLICK) , been suggesting it for years. And it is easy to add one's own BB code tags.

I have thought about disabling it globally, but having the WYSIWYG post editor enabled has some useful functionality that some might feel the need for sometimes. While I have had it mostly disabled for more the decade due to issues, occasionally I still want it so will temporarily enable it. Since even long term posters who have had this issue before are still having issues turning it off, seeing or choosing this solution, I might just disable it soon.

EDIT: I think I will turn it off for now. If even long term/ regular posters are having issues still with managing it, how much worse for newbies. It should be disabled now for users.

^ the problems of this site are well beyond added script code in messages.
This site literally crashes EVERYTIME i try to post in the forum.
I have a computer that is 2 years old and i've tried various browsers.
It's such a hassle to post that i don't even bother.
Same goes for adding albums, bands etc
These problems scare many potential collaborators away.
How does anyone see a future on this site?
MMA has had these problems for years and they just get worse.
It's literally a ghost town with only a scant few users who contribute.
Add the fact there are no attempts to modernize these sites and it seems futile.
RYM on the other hand just keeps getting better and better by the day.
So sad. This site has so much potential :(

Except for the obnoxious "Tower of Babel syndrome" and still no option to filter out reviews written in languages one does not speak.

The trouble is this. When M@X and his late partner set this site up, it is fairly obvious that it was not only a labour of love, but also a means of making a few bucks. Cleverly, he got a bunch of people on an unpaid basis to collaborate with him to build it up, and they were happy to do so, because everyone simply adores the music and loved the opportunity to contribute to a unique thing.

When he introduced the Crapcha thing, everybody had a massive moan, and he removed ads from the site (how he made money), and now asks for donations, and I seriously doubt he gets much from these, even to cover his costs, and running a website can be expensive, which I know because I have to pay out of my own pocket for mine, another labour of love.

The only solution, as far as I can see, is for the site to run on a sort of subscription basis which would fund tarting it up a bit and essential maintenance. I happily paid a few bucks to Progressive Ears a few weeks back, and if I felt that I could influence what happens here for the overall good, would do so here.

In all honesty, I don't blame him for letting it become run down on a financial basis.

^^ Without the script injection it may be little less liable to crash. It does not crash for me (sometimes I have had issues) so that might well have something to do with your internet service and/or settings (like security settings, are you using a stable IP, a proxy, good service provider...). I haven't the greatest of computers, but I do have a good fibre optic service and a reliable wireless router. But I guess RYM works for you just fine. Obviously that is a much more advanced, developed, better maintained and developing site. I use its database more than Prog Archives, but I like PA's forum still and will be very sad if this site disappears which I fear it might. SO much work has gone into entering bands and albums, reviewing, and things like forum posts, topics... I wish I knew it was being backed up by more than one user and it was all being cached cause one day it might just disappear.

Sorry, but my editing box just looks awful with the WYSIWYG editor disabled. I can't make any sense out of it. Can you restore it?

I don't want to at this time, sorry. Please try your best to adjust to not using it for now. I did know that it would be awkward for you especially with how you post.

I have not been using it for more than a decade except occasionally. Humans are very adaptable; takes getting used to and changing strategies.

^ Oh, and maybe try PMing M@x with your concerns.

EDIT: You do know that you can still use full reply editor, right?

An issue would be adding objects like stars (still can be done) and learning the BB code for some, see my link in my earlier post.

Oh it's by no means perfect. It's super hard to make corrections and add new artists. However despite its flaws at least it's upgraded continously and attracts new eager contributors by the day.

I don't even know (or see) this WYSIWYG post editor when I'm in the MCP and Forum Preference

WTF is WYSIWYG, anyways??

Edited by Sean Trane - April 14 2025 at 11:21
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

As I turned it off, it does not show up as an option any more. The initials stand for What You See Is What You Get. It's a rich text editor that shows you a preview of the finished post and you can paste in rich text, images, hyperlinks...

Like I wrote to Sean Trane, because I turned it off, the WYSIWYG post editor does not show up as an option any more. You did have it enabled before. It is no longer an option in the member control panel.

Again, the initials stand for What You See Is What You Get. It's a rich text editor that shows you a preview of the finished post and you can paste in rich text, images, hyperlinks...

I think the biggest aspect that gives people doubt about this site's future is his lack of transparency and nonchalant absence. If he at least gave the appearance of trying to keep the site up it would instill some confidence.

As far as the financial aspects, there are many avenues he could pursue but clearly lacks the vision and / or passion to bring them to fruition.

If this site was merely a financially based investment then that would make sense as to why that passion is clearly lacking.
