Of course, DSotM will win, quite rightly...

so here's a vote for my fave Nektar: Remember The Future
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I had a total of 44 albums in low Earth orbit lined up for this year and these are the 19 lonely space travellers that didn't quite make it to final touchdown in the poll. Smile

Hi,

Goodness gracious ... I still have all these albums!

I miss the blending of Micky and Deke in "Back Into The Future" ... and that version of C'Mon ... is the best EVER with Micky yodeling over and with that male Choir ... one of the ages, but you have to love music, and love tripping, to appreciate his going all out crazy ... totally beautiful and far out. A very special night that's for sure.

I still blast my ears with the double LP of The Space Ritual ... it's the best thing to clear the cobwebs in your ears when you think that you know what progressive music has become and was never.
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Not surprisingly for those that know my tastes at PA quite well, I voted for Message's From Books and Dreams, which is one of my very favourite albums. "Dreams and Nightmares (Dreams)" (12:45) and "Dreams and Nightmares (Nightmares)" (13:30) I especially adore off the album. I had not thought of the album as space rock, but it does have psych qualities.   I love it, so who cares? Labelling is for tinned food... and toxic waste, and well, lots of other things actually. Love quite a few albums in this list. The Gong's are great, especially Angel's Egg, Agitation Free, Hawkwind, Neu!, Kraan and others are great.

Take Dark Side Of The Moon out of the equation and I'm going to have a hard time picking one of the many incredible releases on here. And this poll reminds me I need to get my "Tarot" cd back from one of my kids. It was more his art work than the music on that one.

I'll vote for Space Ritual. IMO DSotM is not space rock.
Is it any wonder that the monkey's confused?

Oh, stop it. There is no Daevid Allen's Gong. Just Gong. Look at the (crap) cover art - or look it up at Wikipedia, Discogs, PA, RYM or wherever. Gong were a real band. Not just Daevid's project.

-Loads of great stuff here. Roger Waters' Pink Floyd is only at fifth place because Money makes me physically ill. A top ten from here would look ca. like this:

Gong - Flying Teapot
Gong - Angel's Egg
Nektar - Remember the Future
Hawkwind - Space Ritual (it has just recently clicked with me)
Eloy - Inside
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Agitation Free - 2nd
Message - From Books and Dreams
Man - Back into the Future
Neu! - Neu! 2

I'll admit I always skip sides A+B and dive straight into Sospan Fach/C'Mon. I don't mean to say that the studio sides are bad or anything like that. But it's not that special either.

No, it's not. But to me it does feature enough elements of Space Rock for me to understand why someone would consider it for inclusion in a poll like this. To me it's a little like: none of Steely Dan's albums are genuinely Jazz Fusion, but I still notice plenty of Jazz Fusion in every single album of theirs.

I expect Roger Waters would by Amused to Death (not) to find The Wall and The Final Cut in the upcoming 1979 & 1983 Space Rock polls. Smile

I would not complain about Dark Side of the Moon being here, but if going for such clearly not space rock ones, I would adjust the name of the poll. That just leads to confusion as I am sure you have experienced before by adding albums that don't fit the topic title's description. This is more like yearly albums by acts that have been associated with Space Rock. Maybe call it something like, say, "Space Rock Associated Acts: 1978 Albums". I do like more accuracy and more description, maybe has something to do with me not watching Fox News.

I looked for an album that I might likr more than DSOTM and I haven't found any. Nihonjin is a good second, together with Eloy's
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution
