I know there is a RiP thread. But an actor of Gene Hackmans status deserves hes own thread.

Gene Hackman are one of the names i have been planning how to write the euology. Gene Hackmans one actor interchangeable with the finest generasjon of american actors canon - among the Eastwood, Redford, DeNiro, Pachino, Hoffman, Streep, Close, Caan, Duvall, Nicholsen etc the generation after Brando, Dean, Lemmon. Acting is defined by Hackmanns generation. To me the most important names of moderne film (american film acting cannon) whos name carry such weight it is felt when they pass on.

The sercumstans surrounding hes death reads quite dramatic. I Will not have wild speculation in this thread. Purly love for this great actor.

Certainly one of the top actors. French Connection I & II are definitely great films and he is the major reason for that plus a late career performance in Unforgiven stand out for me. I feel he may have been under utlised a bit but when you think of other great actors of his generation (Pacino, De Niro etc) they had nothing on him!

Sad loss.   I don't even think Redford or Eastwood were in his league,   Hackman was incredibly brave in a way they just weren't and far better at playing an every-man, and a comedic genius: Young Frankenstein as the Blind Man, and of course Lex Luthor in Superman

The French Connection is one of my favourite movies; so too is The Poseidon Adventure. A great actor indeed and a very sad loss. RIP sir
