Here is my list of progressive music faves for the year 1971. My choice is the excellent and ground-breaking debut Passport album "Doldinger". Pick your favourite!

It has to be 'Tarkus' - just over Wyatt's last Soft Machine album.

Very nice, Doug, various I love here, but I can't not vote for Van der Graaf Generator's Pawn Hearts, which I think to be an incredible album.
If that weren't here, then I would have voted for Hawkwind's In Search Of Space. Aqualung is also awesome, I like Terje Rypdal and Collage very much, Passpprt/Doldinger Colloseum Live, The Yes Album. Soft Machine's Fourth.... |

I'm with you completely.... ...apart from the fact that Colosseum Live literally drops my jaw... frankly, there's an embarrassment of riches in this poll..

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

For several decades of love it's undoubtly Pawn Hearts, But if I'm only counting the last five or six years, I think my stongest relation is to the two first albums listed here (voted for Terje):
Terje Rypdal-Terje Rypdal Soft Machine-Fourth Van der Graaf Generator-Pawn Hearts Jethro Tull-Aqualung Le Orme-Collage Passport-Doldinger Love all of them though, and they're all perfect to my ears. |
