In regards to bootlegs that may actually present a band at its finest or best, but poorly recorded, that's partly correct.

I get the idea of how the music "felt" when there's a certain element of "re-experiencing" a moment or moments, that I was once a part of. As an audience, I mean. With bands I've seen live and experienced being blown away by first hand - a rough or bad recording is far less bothersome. I can "fill in the gaps" and relive something greater than what I am actually listening to. If I played the same recording to a friend who has never experienced this band or artist in a concert, it will probably come across as somewhat unlistenable. I don't think anyone suspects that a bad recording of a show says anything about the quality of the actual show, though.

I will never really understand how Led Zeppelin live "felt" through a a badly recorded bootleg, in the way that you two do. Not even close. Having no real life memories of them to relive or re-experience, makes that near impossible for me. Well, that's just how this works for me I guess.

As a long time Zep Bootie, I think my personal favorite is Seattle 1975.   Central Park NY 1969 also great, and L.A. 1972.   

Zeppelin's biggest complaint about bootlegs was the quality & price, so I'm not surprised Page wanted to adjust HtWwW.   But yeah, we want the real thing and in order of performance.

Good point about the Dead, but they're a different animal ...better recordings and the Dead's levels were compatible with private recordings.
