Dodo Bird (That's me) has been creating music since around 1997. I often collaborate with other musicians but it's mostly a one man act. I was born in Israel, currently living in Bat Yam. I would not describe the earlier Dodo Bird albums as prog, but as experimental, ranging from lo-fi acoustic folk to electronica. Since 2015 I've taken a more prog turn, and released 3 concept albums: Dream Lands, Descent, and now the new album Sedna: I'm Waiting For You, which tells a sci-fi story. In 2016 I applied to this forum with the Dream Lands album, but it was rejected, mainly because it was not rocky enough (Link to old thread). The new album is more rocky than the previous ones, and has lots of prog influences, so I think it can be considered eclectic prog. Link to streaming services of Sedna: I'm Waiting For You. Link to artist BandCamp. If you want more info I'd be happy to supply it! Edited by dodobird - February 18 2025 at 15:10 |

Yes, I remember that old thread only too well...and our somewhat unsuccessful attempts to classify your music lol! I'm struggling to classify your latest album too to be honest, but unlike last time, I do think that it's something that would most likely merit inclusion on PA somewhere.
The album sounds psych/space in some parts, perhaps with a more post rock sound in other places, and it does have some of the more rocky elements that the 'Dream Lands' album was missing. Eclectic Prog?...Maybe, or failing that Crossover Prog. Let's wait and see what the Eclectic Team make of it first. Someone from that team will hopefully spot the topic and give their thoughts shortly, but if not (after perhaps a week without any further replies), I'll take the suggestion to the Crossover Team to see where it leads. This is the site that most of our sub genre teams use to track their evaluations: https://awesomeprog.com/artists/25431. I added your last three albums to the site, but not the pre-2015 ones that you said yourself weren't really prog.

I did ![]() I'll forward this suggestion to our team but that biography is a little sparse for our standards. Could you perhaps expand on it a bit more?

I tried to expand on the biography a bit. Hope it suffices:
Oded Streigold, the producer behind the Dodo Bird project, was born in 1974 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Streigold did not study music or learned to play any musical instrument as a child, and only became interested in creating music in his early twenties, being influenced by friends from the fringes of the indie scene in Tel Aviv, such as Shay Leon, Maya Kipnis and Eyal "Geemel" Goldstein. Without any experience or formal knowledge of music, Streigold immediately started to record and produce songs, with understandably strange results. Over the years his knowledge of music production and performance on various instruments developed, and he began to shift towards more simple folkish, singer-songwriter type of music, and performed his first live shows with bass player and producer Yaniv Weinberg around 2006. This period also resulted in the album One Cat. In 2009 he moved to Spokane, WA in the US, and during that time attended music theory classes in Spokane Falls Community Collage. Upon returning to Israel in 2012, Dodo Bird slowly began to experiment with more complex musical forms, and incorporate some prog-rock influences, which resulted in 3 concept albums: Dream Lands (2016), Descent (2018), and Sedna: I'm Waiting For You (2025), all including collaborations with Leipzig based eclectic prog/pop/experimental artist Ariel My Friend. |
