I can understand why you might think this and there are some people on there who seem to be like that but I don't think it's as bad as it used to be. The really snobby people either got bored or were kicked out or whatever. I think a lot of them tend to like more than just symph prog or prog metal and many are big fans of RIO and avant garde. Most of the prog places I see online seem to be mostly younger fans who seem to be really into prog metal and not much else or maybe just newer prog and aside from the most well known 70s bands (or well known in general) don't know much about the lesser known (old and newer) bands. At least that's been my experience. Go on any of the prog reddit pages and you'll see what I mean. They might occasionally mention Eloy, Triumvirat, PFM, Ange or Nektar but probably not much more obscure than those.

I went over there once and was pleased to see an ongoing conversation with Steve Babb about the last Glass Hammer album. That was cool. However I feel very invested in PA and also prog yt channels generally name check PA not PE because of the expansive database.

Ian Anderson is great on flute and some of his sound on Aqualung [my favorite album by them] is great, especially on the starrer My God. [sorry, if I confused a song's name]. That being said, I never could like early or late Tull. They seemed uneven to me. Stuff like Bouree is decent but there is much fluff in there as well. Personally, I think they have two top tier albums out of which I personally only would rate Aqualung as an all time classic. Still, as the poster said, everyone has their opinion on music. There is little objectively right or wrong [unless you are talking about Rolling Stones' Bridges to Babylon. That has to be the single most worst thing I have listened in my early rock phase :p] and I can't criticize Tull or most bands on a musical level, even if I don't like them.

Hi, Time for something else ... it should help a few folks get the right idea about a lot of music!!! It's a bit much, but actually very with it, and some folks might not like it. But it is, for the most part (in my book) very correct and right, though, more often than not, we dislike folks that speak out as much as Bob does ... but I think he is quite right. Bob is not one of those that is sucked in by lists, numbers and Tarzan's!

Whilst not directly related but I somehow perceive PE to be more serious for some reasons. Their registration page kind of gave me that seriousness persona. On most forums [whether music related or not], I just have the standard Clash's 'London Calling' poster as my profile image [just like here]. But I was afraid that if I put up a punk band's image as my profile one on PE, the ban hammer would come on me. So, I just put King Crimson's debut LP's image as my profile version there

I've
been there almost as long as I've been here and at the time, I was the
only with Garion (long gone in both sites - at least posting-wise) and
Ivàn. I had joined there, because they held some very interesting polls
and the results fitted much more with my tastes than here. But I never
got involved there as much as here (no DB to develop). Their
membership also includes some key actors of the prog scene (including
label owners), which made/makes it more uptight about negative criticism
and pillaging of music in general. The site philosophy was also quite
different, as the archives disappeared about so many months of unused
silent threads. Ditto for the poll results and reviews published, who
+/- disappeared when they switched to a new platform in 2012. In a way there was a one-way animosity towards PA, partially because of M@X's ruthlessness (trying to go to the top - PA reached #83 of all music sites at one point - and make money out of it)
and the "samples" on offer, which sometimes neared the whole album (I
remember a Guapo incident) in an era where YT didn't feature all of what
they do nowadays. But most of the anymosity is now long gone history,
and since the prog space is slightly regressing, there seems to be a
concern about about the "only other" source (not counting DPRP and SoT)
of info hosting a forum. Also, in PE, they were adamant about
respecting the ban of politics & religion subjects right from the
start, whereas in PA, this was much more open for 20 years (until the
still-recent ban) I don't know about the
"seriousness", but yessss, it's a tougher place there to survive than
here (many here tried & failed). Difficult to be rookie/noob over
there, and you had/have to be more careful about what you wrote/write
there than over here. |

I got banned from PE in 2019 for calling out Poisoned Youth for his Covid misinformation. To be honest, I haven't missed it. It had turned into something of a cesspool, as unregulated social media tends to do.

We steer clear of those kinds of controversial discussions here. Although there were a lot of heated discussions back then on that and other issues. Some very sloppy interpreting of data. It's so important to not spread disinformation and misinformation, especially when it comes to serious things like health issues and who is better, Yes or Genesis? The answer is Magma, by the way.

Well that's nonsense, please don't use such inflammatory terms when we have our fair share of trolls here. PE may not be for all but it's a fairly gentle place compared to the vast majority of the internet. I consider it somewhat of a haven of tranquility. |

Not only that but Covid didn't really become much of a thing until around March of 2020 so unless he and Cozy lived in China I doubt it happened in 2019.

I probably get more info for my reviews from PE more than anywhere else. So many knowledgable people, musicians, etc. It's like getting inside information much of the time. I'm not a social person at all. I've never joined facebook or instagram etc. And never will. So I don't post a lot, but again as a resource that site is a gold mine. PE and PA are the two sites I visit most.

If you can't name at least three Magma, Gong, Van der Graaf Generator and Area songs or albums you get banned.

I have always found PE a very warm and welcoming place, and cannot think of one argument I have had there.
Contrast that to the Covid period here, which was simply horrible - and, yes, I know that more than a few disagreed with my observations on the topic, although in terms of how to make points and core truths, I personally think that hindsight has justified much of what I said (I based much of my thoughts of the time that Boris & Hancock et al were such inveterate liars, that very little they said could be trusted, so not really that controversial at all. Further, humanity is a herd creature, in the main willing to follow and swallow any load of old cobblers passing as the truth, hence the fact that snake oil salesmen still do very well, thank you very much).

^ Maybe but the herd mentality goes both ways. The Covid/vaccine deniers were just as sheep-like as anyone.

Here we go with the broad brushes again, and the name calling. I thought that political topics were not allowed anymore? If there ever was a political topic, then it's COVID.
