Born in 1965 in South Germany.

In my early years I wasn't particularly interested in music at all. In the beginning of the 1980s, I startet with Kate Bush and Pink Floyd(Shine .. and Dark Side of the Moon), Mike Oldfield, Jon Lord, Deep Purple, Genesis (early Phill Collins area) and Alan Parsons - until I listened to Pirates of ELP, which was aired in full length on British forces radio BFBS, this was an eye opener and since then the three are sill one of my favourite bands. I love their albums - except Love Beach (of course).

In the 1990s i moved a bit to NWOBHM and electronic trance music, but my old loves were allways present. I love Iron Maiden and especially their progressive lontracks: rime of the Ancient Mariner, Seventh Son.. etc.

In the late 2010s I discovered some progressive web radio stations and I entered more deeply in the progressive music of the 1970s like Gentle Giant, VdGG, Kansas, Renaissance, Yes, Eloy, Genesis (Petr Gabriel area) and also the of the following periods until today like Sympony X, Dream Theater many more ...

... and then there was the night I whatched a clip of MAGMA playing Hhai and MDK on youtube ... I was stunned and speechless ... it was like a revelation, which changed everything and opened a complete new world of music to me ...

I am so thankful to all the innovative and progressive bands of the 1970s which are mostly so underrated, and I am glad that Prog lives on!

Keep On Proggin'!

Welcome. Do you prefer to be addressed by your user name or the name in your profile? I prefer it when people directly call me by my actual name, Greg, rather than Logan (which is based on a 70s film character that learned that carousel is a lie and there is no sanctuary).

I first heard "Hhai" about 20 years ago and loved it. MDK soon became a favourite album of mine. Love Magma throughout the career, but the debut is my particular favourite, and Retrospective 1-2.

Actually I think this might have been what first really turned me on to Magma.

"La Dawotsin" has been compared to Oldfield's Tubular Bells (it's thought that Stella Vander thought that Oldfield borrowed from Magma's), and I'd compare both to L's Themes from Death Note as well as some music off the soundtrack for Sette Notte in Nero as I recall. Pink Floyd was one of my early favourites and remained my favourite band for years.

I've annoyed more than one person driving in my car as I played this loud.

Hi Greg!

Thanks for your welcome. You may address me as Andi or Bullenwächter, both names apply to me, I don't care. But Andi may be easier for non-German speakers My user name originates from the nameplate of an electric fence device some 35 years ago. By the way, our last car was a Logan - a 2007 Dacia Logan MCV

I also love MAGMA's early works. But they drives my wife crazy, as well as VdGG and Gentle Giant - and I have to stand her caustic comments, Otherwise I have to endure their caustic comments - which severely limits my enjoyment of music. So I can only enjoy their music when she is absent

There are two albums which are very ambivalent, Attahk and Merci, but at least Attahk contains one of MAGMAS most cheerful and funniest song, (in which our heroes Ürgon & Ğorğo Meet), and I wonder, if they ever performed it live on stage:

Welcome from a fellow German (and Kate Bush fan) on the board, of about the same age, if living in Italy now.

Not sure where you stand on my avatar man and his band, they are my German favourites, but I was a big Eloy fan when I was younger.

Your user name reminds me of the new band Kugelschreiber (actually British, not on PA or maybe not yet but North Sea Radio Orchestra connected) that I discovered  two months or so ago. Just saying... Tongue

Thanks, Bullenwächter. I like Merci more than most and I love Attahk. On a trip to Mexico Attahk was in my ears a lot at the poolside while sipping cocktails. I really love the way the album ends with Dondai and Nono. Merci has Eliphas Levi, especially, and The Night we died as highlights for me.

My wife at least went to a concert of Mmagma with me without complaining. And she likes some VdGG and GG, but generally my wife is into things like The Carpenters, ABBA and um Air Supply. Most of the music I like I would not play around my wife. And she likes various Kate Bush, but not nearly as much as I do.

Hallo nach Italien!

I have 10 CD albums of Frank Bornemann's band, from Inside to Oceans II - but not the complete line. I really like them, but I haven't listened to them so much. I can listen to one album, then I feel the need to change to something other so they are not my absolute top favourite.

But I always wonder how native English speakers evaluate Frank's sung lyrics with his very clear German pronunciatio

Hi Hrychu

Thanks for this hint! So far, I haven't connected the second part of my username with that song title
