SAS Rogue Heroes - Season 2
This is one of Steven Knight's pet projects post Peaky Blinders and is about the birth of the world famous 'Special Air Service' regiment during WW2. This takes it up just to before the D-Day landings and comparing to Season 1 gets a little bit away from the 'Boys Own Adventure' larger than life story telling. Here we get a lot more of the brutality and sheer raw nastiness of war. One episode in particular involving children is extremely hard hitting. An absolute must watch for anyone with an interest in WW2. 8/10

Just watched 3rd and 4th episodes. This has definitely not gone where I was expecting. I do wonder what actually goes on in rural Wales (aside from sheep worrying obviously) based on a few dramas that seem to think 'just about anything' it seems! I nearly fell off my chair laughing when the 3rd episode went full on 'Slasher Movie'. Crazy stuff. BTW watch out for young rising star Louis Ashbourne Serkis, his parents being noted actors Lorraine Ashbourne and Lord Of The Rings star Andy Serkis.

White Lies 8 episodes
Natalie Dormer stars in this recent crime drama from South Africa. Probably the smartest written thing I've seen for a long time. Politics and racism are the backdrops against a police investigation of a double murder at a well to do family home. Dormer's character is a reporter who is also the estranged sister of one of the family members. I mostly binged this in 2 nights. It has it all for this type of suspense crime drama ( of which there are many!). 9/10

The first 2 episodes of season 2 of Squid Game. Brilliant, love it.

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire

Excellent 3D animated subplot regarding the fallen but still active Empire's takeover of the distant worlds for their natural resources led by the cunning Grand Admiral Thrawn and the New Republic agents who try to thwart them.

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi

Companion series toTales of the Empire as it follows Count Dooku when he was still a Jedi Master but starting to be conflicted, communing with Palpatine, and concealing the clone army being created on Kamino. Recommended to Star Wars enthusiasts.

All done with se02 of Squid Game - definitely another season coming as it just ended in the middle of ongoing events. Great show though.

American Rust

A slow-burn character drama taking place in a sleepy Rust Belt town. The top star is Jeff Daniels playing a local cop embroiled in corruption and several moving parts crimes. He does an admirable job trying to carry the weight of the show which suffers from serious lack of character development in the writing. I certainly enjoyed parts of it, but not enough to recommend or ever re-watch it. Beautiful location for the story filmed in Western Pennsylvania. 3 stars.

Recently finished watching Squid Game. And it actually is great.
What's funny is that I also listened to Silhouette's Seventh Wave recently (which immediately became an all-time favorite to me), and you can pretty well picture Squid Game world when listening to it, it's quite funny.

Also been watching at Conflicts tonight, the 4 first episodes (among 6). It has its qualities (typically it's mostly realistic), but also its...strange aspects... Characters are often caricatural, and for some reason (probably to avoid making the thing too spicy in the context, it was made in 2024 in Finland, showing what clearly is an invasion of Finland by Russia), the creators of the series refuse to name the enemy, and the characters keep circling around it, like the enemy is coming from Kaliningrad, in 2024, with missiles, in order to secure access to the sea, because Finland is "the door to Europe", and yet after that they keep calling them "the mysterious foreign enemy" and won't even have the idea of having a call with Moscow, it's kinda hilarious.

Yep I get the point about Daniels carrying it but that's more than enough for me. Smile

To square the circle I've now finished it. What they were thinking with this I just can't imagine. The plot just seemed to fall off the edge of the cliff with no resolution of anything at all just when it was getting a tiny bit suspensful. Disappointing and could well have been binned but for Clunes involvement I suspect. 4/10

Severance is as good as ever although only 3 episodes so far. Brienne of Tarth makes a very strange appearance (well the actress Gwendoline Christie that played her in GOT). It's all weird, creepy and ridiculously funny at times, Ben Stiller as the director gives you a clue this is not always going to be 'straight up' dark psychological drama for every minute, the interview scene for a door company is priceless and then the aforementioned appearance of Gwendoline Christie as 'goat woman'. If that's not getting you interested I've no idea what will!
