This is how I had planned to do the 2024 poll but then did not. In this I have three sections:

- The first eight are taken are from PA's top album chart for 2023 here: PA TOP Albums for 2023. Since I did not set the numbers of reviews or make changes, or use filters as I usually would, some albums get very high with quite a limited number of ratings.

- The second eight are taken from the Awesome Prog Album of the Year poll list for 2023 where all PA members could suggest albums. See https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-2023/results] That seems way more the list I would expect as top albums from the PA crowd. See notes below on three albums that would have been in that list, but one had appeared in the taken from PA list and the other I have in my list.

- The third list is nine of my favourite albums of 2024 taken from my list at Awesome Prog. Nine because I added two PoiL Ueda albums to one line. if choosing on of those two albums, please specify which one. See userlist here: https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-2023/users Two of those albums are not in PA, the Sufjan Stevens and Kristin Michael Hayter. Sufjan may be added at some time.

I ask people to choose one studio album they like from the list (Prog or not) or vote other to mention another. Feel free to list all your favourites from 2023.

Notes:

- Seven Impale's Summit rank 4th in the Awesome Prog AOTY chart, but since it's in the list from Pa's chart at number 7, I skipped it.

- Swans' The Beggar is at number 8 on the Awesome Prog list, but because it's my number one, I skipped for that section and claimed it for myself. :)

- Likewise, Poil Ueda is at number 9 on the Awesome Prog list but is my number two album and so I liberated it from the clutches of that section to be claimed later for my section in a higher respective position. :) SO that bring the actual tenth ranked album at AP to the seventh position in its section since three of its albums are appearing elsewhere.

Really, I just think it works better having The Beggar and Poil Ueda in my section as then I get some big names from the Awesome Prog AOTY poll rather than my more niche (or at least more niche at PA) choices.

Anyway, happier with this than the 2024 one, and sorry if having a section of my faves based on my AP list seems in bad taste, but I like to talk about and share that which I care about. One might call it narcissistic, but it's hardly like I made the music. Just sharing section of music that has meant something to me and interested to see who else enjoys what.

2023 was a great year. A lot that I like a lot. From the first group, Jack O the Clock was in top 5. None from the second group made my top 10 but liked the Agusa and Steven Wilson

My number 1 was (and still is) Swans. Squid and Poil Ueda would be in top 20.

I have enjoyed various recent/ more contemporary The Flower Kings music more than I might have expected with the ratings and earlier TFK music less than I might have expected with the ratings.

An excellent trio there per my tastes.

In each of your top 20s at Awesonme prog, we share both PoiL Ueda albums, Squid, and Swans.. And we share a bunch of others in our lists.

Nice we sill share our top one. We have a fair number of albums in both our Awesome Prog lists, but Swans' The Beggar, Squid's O Monolith, ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT "Darling the Dawn", and Poil Ueda are the albums we both share in our top 20 for 2023.

Thanks, John. Zopp is the only one of those in the list I know. I know there was a One Shot album, which I though was released in 2022 called 1111 (I have the first three One Shot albums) and Univers Zero's Lueur I never paid close enough attention to, to be honest. It's at number 26 of my Awesome Prog list.

I like that album a lot too -- was in my top 20 for 2023. Strong year per my tastes. I was tempted to move it up my 2023 Awesome Prog AOTY list for this poll. That said, doesn't matter, I like to see what people like in a poll if applicable as well as what they like that is not in the list. :)

56. Zopp - Dominion [BC] [SPO]
57. Kilter - The Suspended Woman [BC] [SPO]

Zopp is one of those much loved albums that just didn't do it for me personally despite loving so much "Canterbury sound" music. Maybe if I was also bigger on symphonic prog I would like it more. I should try it again and see if it now clicks. Listening again now and enjoying it more. It's quite derivative, but that does not stop me from enjoying music. A problem with quite a bit of my list is that I streamed it once without really giving it the chance to breathe and live and to listen without any distractions. The albums in the top 23 were much more solidly listened to and some of those have got many, many spins from me. My ranking always feels quite arbitrary to me, other than I may have a clear number one or top three... That Kosmischer Laufer album should be higher now considering how much I have listened to it (I adore KL and that to me is very strong offering). Now that is some "retro" music that I really love.

^ Greg, I mentioned my top five from the poll but if I had included one more it would have been that third choice on your big list Poil Ueda. It's in my top ten for that year. Such a unique sounding record.
