These are 25 of my favourite albums not in PA.

I did another poll earlier today with 25 of my usual suspects with only albums included in PA. See THIS TOPIC

In this all albums are, at least at this time, not in PA. It's definitely not a Prog and non-Prog poll because the dichotomy just does not work for this. Various of these could be considered as Prog as various of the other and I don't classify my collection that way.

Vote for five or less (or more if wanted) and please mention those in a post.

Beach House - Bloom (2012)
The Comet Is Coming - Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery (2019)
Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want (2018)
Dear Laika - Pluperfect Mind (2022)
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest (2010)
Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown (2024)
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake (2011)
James Holden & The Animal Spirits - The Animal Spirits (2017)
Julia Holter - Have You in My Wilderness (2015)
Kimbanourke - Binjari (2024)
Lingua Ignota - Caligula (2019)
Melody's Echo Chamber - Melody's Echo Chamber (2012)
Mid-Air Thief - Crumbling (2018)
Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me (2010)
Niechęć - Niechęć (2016)
otay:onii - Míng Míng (2021)
Perfume Genius - Ugly Season (2022)
Bruno Pernadas - Those Who Throw Objects at the Crocodiles Will Be Asked to Retrieve Them (2016)
St. Vincent - All Born Screaming (2024)
samlrc - A Lonely Sinner (2024)
Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz (2010)
Tapir! - The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain (2024)
Vanishing Twin - The Age of Immunology (2019)
Weyes Blood - And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow (2022)

Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me is my #1 pick by quite a wide margin.

Next up are Lingua Ingota and Sufjan Stevens, which are both very good.

A step down, St Vincent and Xiu Xiu close out my five.

The bottom two could have been higher picks with different albums. 'Mass Seduction' for St Vincent, and there are about three Xiu Xiu albums I like better than this one. 'Angel Guts', 'Forget', or 'Oh No'. I'm still getting acquainted with the new one.

^ I 'm glad you told me about your favourites by St. Vincent and Xiu Xiu. I got into St. Vincent just the summer before last with Actor (2009), which came to me at the right time, one might say during a very sad time in my life. I then got Marry Me (2007) which I also liked very much. I especially liked those albums for the songs Black Rainbow and the Apocalypse Song. I listened to the newest from St. Vincent at this time because, well, been listening to 2024 music and she came to Vancouver in concert for the tour. That album has really grown on me. At first I only loved the title track. I have been meaning to hear more of her material and will listen to mass Seduction soon. As for my Xiu Xiu choice, I'm a huge fan of Twin Peaks (got into the show after The Return came out) and it kind of again came at the right time. I have really liked other Xiu Xiu I have heard, including this year's album. Oh No is one you mentioned that I heard and really like. Will check out the others, especially Angel Guts. Thanks.

Yeah I've been following St Vincent since the album after Actor so I've got to follow her evolution / rise to stardom. She is quite a performer. If you end up liking Mass Seduction, its sister album 'Mass Education' is also worth a few listens, with piano versions of the same songs. I tend to like the Seduction version of most songs better, but a few work better on Education.

The Comet is Coming, Beth Gibbons, Lingua Ignota, Vanishing Twin, Joanna Newsom. Sufjan Stevens could well have been voted but I decided not to this time.

By the way you (Greg) got me into Vanishing Twin, and also you made me check out the recent Beth Gibbons album.

I haven't heard most of these in full but I voted for Weyes Blood and Lingua Ignota solely on the strength of these songs off of their respective albums listed:

Four votes this time as I am only familiar with a handful and within that handful, some I only know part of the album.

The Comet Is Coming
James Holden & The Animal Spirits
Tapir!
Vanishing Twin
