^^ Thanks, Will. From your list I particularly like Animals followed by Free Hand. Also like the Todd Rundgren and Jethro Tull. I checked our Romantic Warrior not so long ago again and found much more enjoyment in the album. Sometimes it just does depend on my mood, what I'm most into at any given time, and what particular music from an album catches my ear.
Samuel. That Susanne Sundfør is a wonderful album. I remember not liking The Soft Parade very much when I first heard it (my brother had it in his collection) but it really grew on me. As for the Banda do Casaco album, I have been listening to that for some time (over 20 minutes in now) and am really digging it and intrigued. I will continue listening. There's quite a lot to it in terms of variety/ variation, and it would take multiple spins to properly absorb it all, I feel. What I'm hearing now is bliss. Wonderful album! The stream is not the best quality vinyl rip, but that doesn't bother me. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention. :) Edited by Logan - December 20 2024 at 09:38 |

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

^ & ^^ Thanks Jared and Jason (aka bender99). You both share three not covered categories (Krautrock, RIO/Avant and Zeuhl), both have Caravan and IQ (albeit different albums) and share Led Zep's Physical Graffiti.
^^ Jared. What I find rather interesting is how people can favour different categories -- I love plenty of albums from all the categories you left out and those are some of my particular favourite categories for music -- and yet still find shared commonalities in other categories. From your list, I adore Pawn Hearts and would say that it is on the avant-prog side of things). And I also really love the Tangerine Dream, that Gryphon album, the Led Zep choice, and I like the Caravan, Oldfield, and Genesis. And I really like Colosseum. Kind of surprised, or whould I have known?, that you don't have any RPI. I would have thought you would have known and liked PFM's Per un Amico, maybe Le Orme's Felona e Sorona, maybe Celeste.... ^ Jason, I especially love Physical Graffiti and Wish YOU Were Here (especially for Shine On which remains as magical as when I first heard it at the age of about 12) from your list. I also really like the Caravan, PFM, Abbey Road, and that Rush album was one of my favourite albums as a teenager. And I like the Jethro Tull. And when I went to Australia Hemispheres was the first album I ordered from a store since I missed it. I used to adore that album; still part of my DNA. Thanks so much for all the lists. Got considerably more than I expected and every one has treasures per my tastes. |

My first and last poll of the year to honor the great work of Logan. I have avoided the obvious choice by replacing less popular albums in some categories, but I think they deserve to be not too far from the best. Now I think I’ll go with an all 70’s or earlier list now. An
overabundance of choices for the main subgenres and really struggled selecting
the “one” for some of these, while several subgenres have yet to begin,
eliminating any selection of the neo, metal, post kind. Again, I pass on
Indo/Raga. I suppose I’ll do an 80s and 90s list next. Canterbury Scene: Khan – Space Shanty (1972) Crossover Prog: FM – Black Noise (1977) Eclectic Prog: Bubu – Anabelas (1978) Heavy Prog: Captain Beyond – Captain Beyond (1972) Jazz Rock/Fusion: Mahavishnu Orchestra – The Inner Mounting
Flame (1971) Krautrock: Amon Duül II – Yeti (1970) Prog Folk: Jethro Tull – Thick as a Brick (1972) Progressive Electronic: Klaus Schulze – Timewind (1975) Psychedelic/Space Rock: Pink Floyd – Animals (1977) RIO/Avant-Prog: Frank Zappa – The Grand Wazoo (1972) Rock Progressivo Italiano: il Balletto di Bronzo – Ys (1972) Symphonic Prog: Genesis – Foxtrot (1972) |

^ & ^^ Many thanks, Louis and George.
- Louis, from your list, that is my favourite proper Return to Forever band album. I adore Houses of the Holy, and love Dark Side of the Moon. Also really like Harmonium, Vangelis and Hybris... George, I know all of that list (helps being 70s). That was my Magma choice and I adore Yeti. Timewind, Anabelas, Space Shanty, Ys and Animals are some other faves of mine. Here's a short live albums list from me. I just listened to this Agitation Free album recently and really like it. I left the released years off because I didn't feel like researching recorded date right now. Canterbury Scene: Gong - Live Etc Crossover Prog: Anna von Hausswolff - Live at Montreux Jazz Festival Eclectic Prog: Gentle Giant - Playing the Fool Experimental/Post Metal: Boris - Performing "flood" Heavy Prog: Rush - All the World's a Stage Jazz Rock/Fusion: Kraan - Kraan Live Krautrock: Agitation Free - Last Post-Rock/Math Rock: Swans - Swans Are Dead Prog Folk: Dead Can Dance - Toward the Within Progressive Electronic: Tangerine Dream - Ricochet Psychedelic/Space Rock: Hawkwind - Space Ritual RIO/Avant-Prog: Cardiacs - All That Glitters Is a Mares Nest Rock Progressivo Italiano: Area - Are(A)zione Symphonic Prog: Grobschnitt - Solar Music: Live Zeuhl: Magma - Rétrospective Vol. 1 & 2 Prog Related: undecided Proto-Prog: Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsys Two mention wwo of my fave lives not in PA, mentioned in another topic before: Fishmans - 98.12.28 Otokotachi no wakare and Portishead - Roseland NYC Live. |
