NOVEMBER       It may be too late for November,  but it's not too late for The First of November - a seasonal Neo Prog album, featuring Holland's answer to Peter Gabriel. Smile

4 stars 1994: November - The First of November

NOVOX       Not a brand of bath salts, but a band of instrumental neo-proggers from the land of tulips and windmills. Smile

ODYSSICE    A simply sensational Symphonic Prog crew who set sail on the greatest odyssey since Dutchman Willem Barents first went in search of the fabled North East Passage and discovered the Barents Sea along the way. Well, who else would you expect to discover the Barents Sea!?? Tongue

OUR OCEANS     Here is the shipping forecast:- The outlook is for warm waves of melodic prog washed over with occasional outbreaks of heavy gale force power chords. Exclamation Better keep the sou-wester handy. Smile

PANTHEON     The best Canterbury Scene album you've never heard! In the vast pantheon of prog, what could be more obscure than a one-off album of Canterbury Scene music from The Netherlands? Pantheon may be a long way from the dreaming spires of Canterbury, but this album still sounds better than many well-known Canterbury Scene bands who are much closer to home - such as Hatfield & the North and National Health for instance. Ermm

PAT COOL      Cool Jazz from the Netherlands and it doesn't come much cooler than Pat Cool, with a remarkable basso profundo singer by the name of Gé Titulaer, who sounds like a bizarre cross between Tom Jones and Scott Walker - and I have No Regrets in making that comparison. All I know is I like it, like it, Yes I do, and I hope you do too. Smile

PBII     Does It Really Happen that there's a Dutch band out there who are following in the footsteps of YES, and yet barely anyone outside of The Netherlands has ever heard of? Yes, It Can Happen! PBII are an outstanding Neo Prog band with a singer who sounds remarkably like a Dutch Jon Anderson and with their last two albums sounding like two of the best albums YES never recorded. Thumbs Up

PEDAL POINT    Every once in a while, an album comes along that sounds like nothing you've ever heard before, and this is it! Just file it under "Progressive".  You don't have to be of a religious disposition to enjoy this devotional album, but it certainly helps. If you hear shades of Focus in the music of Pedal Point, then you won't be surprised to learn this one-off album features none other than Thijs Van Leer. And just in case you wondered, "Dona Nobis Pacem" is Latin for "Give Us Peace" - something worth remembering the next time I listen to a Death Metal album, which isn't very often. Tongue

PERFECT STORM      A Neo Prog band ranked as a Category 5 hurricane who go from a gentle warm breeze to whipping up a Perfect Storm of sound faster than you can say George Clooney. Smile
