I've always felt the Genesis (Shapes) album is very underrated, having owned and enjoyed it since its release in 1983. I saw the band live for the first time on that tour. At the same time, I'm very aware that the album cover, the lack of a proper album title, Phil's cackling on "Mama", and the overuse of the Simmons electronic drums have offended many over the years. Still, if there's anything that damages this album's reputation, it's the absurdly silly "Illegal Alien", which was only included so they could make a video for MTV. While it doesn't ruin the album for this listener, today it's viewed as one of the absolute nadirs of their discography.

Genesis' shapes album. This is one of the few albums left that still has the ability to take me way back in time, to when I was young.

I've never purchased Shapes. I was already shocked and traumatised enough by Abacab at the time. From whar I've heard of it only That's All is a song I want to listen to. They were also adopting the plastic 80's production aesthetic and Collins seemed to have a throat infection when they did Mama. Vote for Steve by default (don't know the PG or AP albums).
