I went with a baker's baker's dozen. A baker's dozen is when you ask for a dozen and they throw in one more for free. A baker's baker's dozen is when you ask for a baker's dozen while giving the secret flour signal which involves snorting and sneezing-out flour, although cocaine can fool some. Don't try it (imposters get kneaded and rolled)! That indicates that you are a member of the secret fraternity of bakers and gets you an extra extra for free.
Message - From Books and Dreams (1973) Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (1975) Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1970) Damnation of Adam Blessing - The Damnation of Adam Blessing (1970) Black Widow - Sacrifice (1970) Yesterday's Children - Yesterday's Children (1970) Satori - Flower Travellin' Band (1971) High Tide - Sea Shanties (1969) Gun - Gun (1969) Armageddon - Armageddon (1975) Atomic Rooster - Death Walks Behind You (1970) Lucifer's Friend - Lucifer's Friend (1971) Morgen - Morgen (1969) Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Solar Fire (1974) Sir Lord Baltimore - Kingdom Come (1970) EDIT: And added another (for 15) as I forgot to mention Black Widow. Counting is for Sesame Street... They call me The Count because I love to count. Edited by Logan - December 15 2024 at 13:56 |

Rush - self-titled ACDC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap ACDC - Highway to Hell (sorry, had to pull two albums from those boys) LZ - Presence BOC - Agents of Fortune Heart - Bebe Le Strange Runaways - Queens of Noise Van Halen - Fair Warning Fanny - Charity Ball Billy Squier - Don't Say No Dio - Holy Diver Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced I can't say those are my very "top" ones, but rather the ones that came to mind first. It would take hours to ensure the word "top" was accurate. Since I ran out of space before getting to Sabbath, I'll save them for a metal list.

We'll hear what David has to say, but for me... I would call Black Sabbath both "hard rock" and "heavy metal" based on the 1970 to 1975 period which I know best, and some other stuff, which also has doom metal qualities. Heavy metal being a kind of development of hard rock, music can be described as both. And geologically-speaking, heavy metals may be found in hard rocks. :) I felt confident in having Black Sabbath's debut as one of my choices, and would have with Paranoid and others too. |

Of the early albums, I find the debut and Paranoid to be on the borderline of Hard Rock and Metal, while the others are Metal to me. I also use to list Paranoid as my fave Metal BS album. |

I am absolutely DIGGING this thread! Thanks for all of the Alice Cooper love!
The first bands I ever saw on the big rock & roll stage were Captain Beyond and Alice Cooper, 28 July, 1972! Right now, my 12 would be: Killer: Alice Cooper School's Out: Alice Cooper Billion Dollar Babies: Alice Cooper Captain Beyond: Captain Beyond Fireball: Deep Purple Foce It: UFO Zoso: Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy: Led Zeppelin Sabbath Volume 4: Black Sabbath Heaven & Hell: Black Sabbath I've played a lot of this material in various garage bands, great fun! "Halo of Flies" on Killer is supreme! Edited by cstack3 - December 15 2024 at 23:36 |

Prog fans are the weirdest - they might as well go for In Through the Out Door (ok, which is half great), Coda and...
I'm trying to think if I have a mostly disliked non fan favorite like that as my personal favorite. I guess I do with Trans by Neil Young, but that's bacause I don't genuinely enjoy his "normal music". |

Jethro Tull - Benefit Blue Phantom - Distortions Flower Travellin' Band - Satori High Tide - Sea Shanties Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking -but I do not think of any of them primarely as Hard Rock myself. Same goes for Alice in Chains (Dirt) and Soundgarden (Batmotorfinger). Those are both closer to Heavy Rock bordering on Metal to me. |

^^ For me, Technical Ecstasy has a very strong personal nostalgic element. I do acknowledge the first six albums as absolute classics. I actually love all eight albums. In the case of Never Say Die, although it has always been my least favourite, I do find the change in sound to be quite interesting, and in more recent times, I am developing a greater love for the album, and especially the track Air Dance. As for the first six albums, I love them all pretty much equally.
Before I was a Van der Graaf Generator fan, I was a Black Sabbath fan. Edited by I prophesy disaster - December 16 2024 at 00:29 |

^Label them exactly as you see fit, I don't care. Maybe it's you who's lost sight, and not me.
