Well, it's a bit long story, but for those really interested it would be quite a help to look at the last days' posts in the Punk thread.

I think Toto did quality yacht rock with slick production, sometimes featuring elements of jazz. Not prog, though.

That term 'yacht rock' again. I first heard it on a yt music discussion video in reference to Steely Dan's Gaucho album earlier this year. Puzzled the hell out of me but then someone explained it was to do with USA west coast relaxed coastal living and taking the ole yacht out for a spin ( I think that's it). If you tried that around Cornwall you'd end up a bit Dead with some of the storms we've had recently!

Not yacht-rock, which was basically melodic pop-rock, soft-rock. Toto could rock with the best (if i may say so), had more energy in their hard rock songs.

Also the question asks if they are prog-related. Read about what that is here:

Similar to Steely Dan, yacht rock tags Toto's music more accurately than anything else. Their sound is marked with slick production and catchy melodies. It's even more of a mainstream blend of pop, rock, and jazz than it is the case with the aforementioned Steely Dan. Toto's music speaks very close to the smooth and approachable aesthetic defining yacht rock. Toto, as an essentially mainstream band with a number of hits, has nothing to do with the experimentalism and attitudes typical of progressive rock, attuned with an underground ethos that defies mainstream conventions.

I've listened to some yacht rock stations and all they play are three songs from this band. That's it. From a discography containing 14 studio albums.

Does this sound like yacht rock to you?
