ELP indeed
early ELO works were OK before an abysmal fall into syrupy easy listening stuff

I love both bands, but ELP were the most consistent at producing quality albums - well at least until BSS.

As for ELO the only albums of theirs that hit the sweet spot for me are the debut, ELO2, and A New World Record. Everything else I find a bit hit and miss - and I mostly lost interest after 'Discovery' when they ditched their distinctive cello/violin accompaniments.

Neither are my favourites but I listen to ELO occasionally still, while it's been years sincee I wanted to listen to anything ELP.

Hi,

ELP, had some easy, fun things, but, in general they were more towards the composing side of music and its interpretation than it was about a pop song.

Not to take anything away from ELO, but in terms of music ability and design, they are "simplistic" as opposed to a lot of the materials that ELP did, which GL even stated that they were not easy stuff to play and often required a very hard level of concentration to do it right on stage.

But there was one person in ELO that I think was excellent, and he was thrown out of the band, unless he left them ... Roy Wood ... by the time you put on "Eddie and the Falcons" and "Mustard" you will find not quite a madman but someone that is trying to express things musically in a very enthusiastic way that was not exactly a pop song, even if it was satirical in many ways ... and even Annie Haslam has stated many times that the guy was an amazing musician ... sadly for all the folks here, probably totally forgotten ... because ELO is more famous and gets all the accolades in the media ... after all they made millions for a few record companies ... and that is all they were .. a cash cow! Only thing missing is that one album cover with the poop coming out looking like gold!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
