Bron-Yr-Aur (Physical Graffiti) Dazed & Confused (I>TSrtS live version) No Quarter (Houses of the Holy>TSRtS live version) Over the Hills and Far Away (Houses of the Holy) Since I`ve Been Loving You (III>TSRtS live version) Stairway to Heaven (IV>TSRtS live version) Tangerine (III) The Battle of Evermore (IV) The Song Remains the Same (Houses of the Holy>TSRtS live version) Whola Lotta Love (II>TSRtS live version) Most of the songs included in the live album "The Song Remains the Same" take on a vitality and energy superior to the studio versions.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

I'd like to amend my previous selections with further choices and commentary:
Black Mountainside (thank you, Bert Jansch)
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (thank you, Anne Bredon) Heartbreaker (the greatest sloppy lead of all time) Since I've Been Loving You (for Bonham's squeaky foot pedal) Gallows Pole (Jimmy on banjo!) Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp (hey, who doesn't love a song about a dog?) Hey, Hey What Can I Do? (why this isn't on LZIII is mystifying) Black Dog (that riff) Battle of Evermore (and Sandy Denny) When the Levee Breaks (the very definition of "progressive blues") The Rain Song (beautiful composition) Over the Hills and Far Away (the acoustic intro) In My Time of Dying (because Blind Willie Johnson, Part 1) In the Light (JPJ's best turn on the synth) Bron-Yr-Aur (perhaps Page's best acoustic composition) Ten Years Gone (A song I never get bored of) The Wanton Song (John Bonham, 'nuff said) Achilles Last Stand (did I mention John Bonham?) Nobody's Fault But Mine (because Blind Willie Johnson, Part 2) Travelling Riverside Blues (Robert Johnson, of course) |

Thanks, did that. Can't seem to actually delete a post though... which is worth bearing in mind -- will have to think twice before saying anything stupid, rude or blasphemous!!

Maybe I'm cheating a bit here, but most of my fave Zep songs are from live versions or off-shoots:
(Live versions from The Song Remains The Same) No Quarter Achilles Last Stand / The Rain Song Whole Lotta Love (Bootleg from 1990s Page/Plant tour) Lullaby (The Cure Cover, because they had Porl Thompson on 2nd guitar) (BBC Sessions) Travellin' Riverside Blues Immigrant Song (Original album tracks) In The Evening Since I've Been Loving you The Lemon Song ...damn, run out of slots! For me it's difficult to choose just ten so I'll just choose ten off the top of my head while probably leaving a few great ones off:
Your Time Is Gonna Come The Lemon Song Tangerine Stairway To Heaven Over The Hills And Far Away In The Light The Rover Kashmir Achilles Last Stand In The Evening Five more: Dazed And Confused Bring It On Home The Song Remains The Same Carouselambra I'm Gonna Crawl (Out door is very underrated imo while 4 is a bit overrated again imo)

Hi,
To be perfectly honest, and I still have the CD's and albums, I can not even decide which song I like better. All in all, I can go back to the first album, and fall away with a smile and love it, as much as I can the later stuff, and ... I would say that there are few bands when/where you can say that over all of their life, they were outstanding, and I think it is more than fair to say that Led Zeppelin was one of these bands. And their complete canon of music ... is one that very few bands can ever sit and compare to!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
