Moving on to 2006! You already know the drill, leave a vote as well as your additional preferences for that year, many albums are naturally missing from the ten-entry polls done here. A good year for sure, with a couple of interesting releases by great bands (as well as a couple not so brilliant ones). Star

2005: Porcupine Tree - Deadwing

Oh, such an easy choice..... the Vanden Plas is for me, one of the very best Prog Metal albums of that decade, let alone year!
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Blood Mountain. One of my favorite releases from 2006: Celtic Frost - Monotheist. Prog-Adjacent for sure.

I'll have to take a rain check on this poll as I don't know any of these albums. Embarrassed

^ Sorry, but Mastodon aren't my cup of tea at all. I'll go back to listening to Burt Bacharach. Tongue

The Mars Volta's run stumbled with that album, so Tool gets it.

The Mars Volta. I'm knitting my way through an egg terrine.

I voted for Magyar Posse's Random Avenger even though I do not see it as Heavy Prog. It's a good post-rock album (and does have a kind of post-rock heaviness about it in places which is indeed heavy).

Agalloch's Ashes Against the Grain would be my second most liked album here from what I know of the poll options. Amputechture I have liked too, and Blood Mountain as I recall.

EDIT: I'll add a track from my album of choice as I often like to do and ask other people to do in my topics.

It's "Random Avenger/European Lover" if it doesn't show up for some.

Suit yourself - but the track I posted is quite accessible by Mastodon standards. Smile

You don't like Magyar Posse's Random Avenger?

What is the world coming to? I blame society.

The Mars Volta album. I like that more than their others (it's a bit more accessible maybe)

Another hard one, but 10,000 Days may be my favorite here so I went with that.

Katatonia
Russian Circles
OSI

Another heavy weight from 2006 that I really like is Zero Hour's "Specs Of Pictures Burnt Beyond". That was the first of two that featured Chris Salinas on vocals, previously from Power Of Omens.
"The wind is slowly tearing her apart"

"Sad Rain" ANEKDOTEN

I may have a problem: I haven't heard any of the listed albums
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Not even with the music videos given? I might as well suggest the OSI album 'Free', very tight and straightforward listen. Or Katatonia which will get my vote in what is seen by many as their best release (I am hesitant b/w this and Last Fair Deal Gone Down)

I voted for Tool ahead of Russian Circles and OSI.
