Five of my other favorites

I'm not sure if all of these would round out my top ten since my favorite bands come and go but for now at least this is as close to a definitive "the other five" list that I could up with. Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, Gentle Giant and ELP just miss my top ten. I also was going to put in the Who and Led Zeppelin but they would probably be better for a non prog poll (same thing with the Moody Blues too even though they could be considered prog or at least more than LZ and the Who).

Out of the ones you have listed Porcupine Tree would always be dearest to me, although Marillion might come as a close second, followed by VdGG. I like both Camel and Kansas but they were never really among these bands that I go crazy for.

Like all five to various degrees. VDGG > Marillion > PT > Camel > Kansas. I put a pillow in the blender and the blender frowned at me.

I like all eras of the band but those first few with Fish were something special especially Clutching At Straws.

A Script for the Jesters Tear was the first album I heard. The University I attended had a listening room with a pretty good music selection. I remember listening to Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra and Miles Davis's Tribute to Jack Johnson at the listening room before going out and buying my own copies. Anyway, I had heard of the band Marillion but never listened to them. I went to the listening room and selected Jester and I was just "meh."

It was around the same time that Misplaced Childhood was out and was getting good reviews. Anyway, a suite mate of mine had a girlfriend who had a bit of Prog ( she was a music major) in her music collection. She actually had this album and I borrowed it. Same reaction to Misplaced Childhood as I had to Jester. She thought I would like Marillion since I was a Genesis fan, but it didn't take. I particularly did not like Kayleigh.

Through the years, I have tried, but Marillion never took. Same with Radiohead, although I prefer Marillion if it came down between those two bands.
