We purged the site of most of these somewhat misleading lines back in January 2021 after Jose went on his mad spree adding "FLAC download - bandcamp.com" to around 3000 albums. We replaced the 'FLAC download' bit with 'Digital album' to begin with if I remember correctly, and then did away with the Bandcamp reference altogether, since many albums are available digitally via several different platforms, not just Bandcamp. It looks from a quick glance at a few in that list that TCat has copied his FLAC lines from the Discogs pages for these albums - and not all of them will be available on Bandcamp, though they may be available from other digital music sources. I think we will therefore probably have to look at all these on a case by case basis rather than wiping them all automatically with the script. The ones that are available from sources other than the one mentioned in the releases section by TCat should just say the usual 'Digital album' imho, but any that seem to be only available from that one single source should stay as they are. I think that's going to be a lot of work to do all at once, so the alternative is to just accept the situation as it is for now and just work through the lists gradually when time permits. We're never going to be able to stop members of the site adding similar lines in the Releases Information of the albums that they add in the future in any case, meaning that there will always be a few of these FLAC lines knocking about on the site no matter how many times we try to purge them. At least what TCat has written is taken from a reliable source - it's not the same as Jose's previous misleading entries suggesting that Bandcamp downloads were only available as FLAC, which was the initial problem we had. And yes, I think it does make sense to look at them from newest to oldest - starting with TCat's list. |

Yes, strictly speaking, FLAC is not a synonymous with digital album. The kind of digital album (mp3, wav, FLAC, Hi-Res etc) is important to many of those who listen/download digital releases. But it's beyond our abilities to point out exact kind of each release. If TCat adds this info, it's up to him.
My first thought was: Yes, sir, please burn all the witches! Fight fire with fire! But than I looked at some TCat's additions and read this:
I think to just accept the situation as it is would be the best and simplest solution. No matter, are digital albums available now as TCat described them or not. If once they were available, that's it! It's similar to out of print CDs (LPs, DVDs and other physical formats) - we don't track them all and don't add "SOLD OUT!" in the Releases info.

Why are the compilations of unreleased Frank Zappa material put together by Joe Travers (Joe's ---age) listed as "Studio Album" and not "Boxset/Compilation"?

Fleesh - Live at CaRIOca ProgFestival: https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=74991 - we now have full line up details, plus some other info. Extra info available via several videos on the Fleesh official YouTube channel, eg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcWIkjhJ4WI. I added the DVD as a separate release here (though I couldn't find a particularly brilliant image of the cover), so this one is now just a digital album (no CD was released as far as I'm aware). - Celo Oliveira / guitar, acoustic guitar - Gabby Vessoni / vocals With: - Léo Peccatu / drums - Rodrigo Zacconi / bass Recorded live at the Carioca ProgFestival 2019 at the Centro Cultural Justiça Federal, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on 22nd October 2019 Recorded by BeProg Produced by BeProg & Vértice Cultural (Cláudio Paula, Mariana Carvalho and Gabi Freire) Sound engineering by Pedro Corrêa (Pedrinho) Sound mixing by Celo Oliveira Digital album 22nd November 2019 - E&O Team: Thanks, David, done. I've also edited a bit your DVD addidion (Live after each track title was excesive). --------------------------------- Edit: The Fleesh 'Versions' album that we currently have in Boxsets & Compilations cannot possibly have been released in 2015. At the end of 2015 the duo had only finished recording their very first two cover versions - namely Renaissance's 'Opening Out' and Loreena Mckennitt's 'Dark Night Of The Soul'. 'Versions I' wasn't released until September 2019, and contained 30 songs. You can view it on Spotify here. It's currently missing from PA. Versions II, III, IV, and V came later in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. The 57-song 'Versions' album that we have in Boxsets & Compilations is a compilation of the first four of the original 'Versions' releases, and the tracklist is already out of date because the album as it appears on Bandcamp has been updated with tracks from 'Versions V', and now contains 78 tracks in total! All the original 'Versions' albums have been removed from Fleesh's Bandcamp - being replaced by that one mammoth compilation, supposedly released on August 20 2015. That is actually the date that Fleesh uploaded their very first cover song to their YouTube channel here. 'Versions V' itself wasn't released until May 31st 2024, so the 78-track compilation on Bandcamp must have been updated sometime since then. Spotify doesn't have this mammoth 78-track 'Versions' compilation in its Fleesh discography, and I suggest that we do the same, since it's just going to keep changing as more 'Versions' albums are released in the future. The 2015 release date given is just a symbolic one which marks the date that Fleesh released their very first cover song on YouTube. Fleesh didn't even have a Bandcamp until 2019! We need to add the 30-track 'Versions I' album that's currently missing from PA and consign this ever-changing compilation to the dustbin imho! Discogs have also screwed up with this - even more than we have - since they have the outdated 57-track 'Versions' compilation (as 57 x File, FLAC lol! - Has Jose added this to Discogs, I wonder?) but none of the individual 'Versions' albums. I'll leave it with you to decide what to do about this. I can add the 'Versions I' album into the studio albums section myself if you agree that we should replace the compilation 'Versions' (which has the identical cover image to 'Versions I', but without the words 'vol. 1' at the bottom) with it.

^ David, to the 2nd part of your message ("Versions").
I think it makes sense to do the following: - add "Versions I" as a studio album (I can't do it myself without some tricks because Spotify is unavailable in my country now); - change the release date of our 57-track compilation Versions to 2023, add tracks 58-78 and point out that they are from 2024 release. If "Versions VI" etc will follow, we can add them in similar way. It tracks of Versions are listed in chronological order I'd add info where they belong. Something like: Versions I: 1. Dark Night of the Soul (Loreena McKennitt version) (4:00) .......................................................................... 28. Ordinary World (Duran Duran) (4:42) Versions II: 29. Holy Land (Angra) (5:58) ........................................... 44. Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd) (6:21) and so on.

I'll do as you suggest with the 'Versions' releases - add the missing 'Versions I' album to studio releases, and then edit the compilation album. According to the Wayback Machine, it first appeared on Fleesh's Bandcamp in March 2021 as a 42-track album, so I'll use 2021 as the year of release. I'll segregate the tracks according to the names of the albums that they originally came from as you suggest, and add a note at the bottom to say that the album is regularly updated as more individual 'Versions' albums are released.

^ All done. Please check that what I've done with the compilation is acceptable, and edit where you feel it is necessary. There are three tracks (numbers 31-33) which aren't included on any individual 'Versions' album, and this does spoil the chronological flow of the tracklist somewhat at that point.
