Great albums in this list. I'm having a hard time deciding between Traffic, Blind Faith and Steve Winwood.

Arc of a Diver is Winwood's masterpiece! The most amazing thing about this album is that it was a "last gasp", as his previous album was not a huge hit, and he wondered if anyone was still interested in his music. He mentioned in an interview that he was fully prepared to retire from the music industry and become a gentleman farmer had there been no interest in Arc of a Diver. Of course, it was a phenomenal "break-out" in every sense of the term, as many people who bought the single and album were completely unfamiliar with his work in Traffic. For this listener, the title track (love that guitar solo) and the languid love song "Dust" are two of the best things he's ever done.

Interesting fact, he owned a large country house in Turkdean, a hamlet in the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire at the time; 5 miles from where I grew up, so the idea of him becoming a 'Gentleman Farmer' is quite possible. It was said he'd often go down to the church and play the organ when he was there...

'Arc Of A Diver' for me...

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Unless I'm mistaken, this is one of the only "original group vs solo albums" polls where a solo album (in this case, the sublime Arc of a Diver) receives the most votes!
