Neu!, IIRC, was founded by ex-members of 'Kraftwerk' and they released few albums starting with the self titled one. They have been called an important influence in the development of krautrock sound even though I found their approach to be more minimalist than either Can, Faust or even Kraftwerk itself.

Their debut album is near instrumental [ comparing it to Can, which had vocals spread all around but they were trite and meaningless and for me atleast, bought down the quality of their compositions; I much preferred their later live archival recordings] and atmospheric in nature. What do you think about it?

I love Neu! even the second album. It's worth noting though that their signature motorik sound actually originated in early Kraftwerk which Ralph and Florian abandoned in favor of their robot synth-pop and then picked up by Klaus Dinger who played in Kraftwerk briefly and then started Neu! So in other words, no early Kraftwerk, no Neu! Love all their first three albums pretty much equally in different ways.

Neu! distinguishes itself within the cosmic sound spectrum of Krautrock bands; the band preferred music that was exceptionally clear and immediately accessible, and they remarkably presage the emergence of post-punk/new wave and bands like The Fall and Public Image Ltd.
Even today, I still consider their first album one of my most favourite pop music items made in Germany. In fact, Neu! possesses a "modern" character when looked back at the past.
Tracks like Hallogallo really do the minimalistic new wave thing long before the actual new wave movement.

I got to know Neu! in the eighties when I got into prog. As a German it was pretty much impossible to miss them, but I've got to say that they didn't click with me at all back then, and neither did related projects by Dinger, Dinger and Rother. They seemed emotionally incompatible with me, they sounded in some way positive, happy, but superficial. I didn't find deeper emotional qualities in that music (as this is very personal, I'm not saying they don't exist).

Having seen them mentioned often I gave them another chance a few years ago, and this time, at least with the debut album, I was in a better position to see what is in this music and what's special about it. So now I'd acknowledge this as something unique and special, and occasionally I like to listen to them, but still there is an emotional distance that I have to their music that is hard to bridge.

Also as a Can and Jaki Liebezeit fan I should be in a good position to appreciate Klaus Dinger's drumming, and let's say "I see what he is doing there" and I can now appreciate his hypnotic style, but I'd still put him some distance below Jaki, who in my view had a much bigger variety.

                      quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

I like the band and my favorite album by them is their third one.
I also like La Dusseldorf. Smile

Good band. Unique in a certain way, and after a few times, their music starts to reveal a certain and special charm.

I thought of it as a nice touch for the "krautrock" thing, by not falling into the "song format" with lyrics, and simply letting the music play out ... in some ways, CAN did the same thing in the early days, and as mentioned above, Damo's words tend to not be appreciated, but one has to realize that it is doing exactly the same thing as the players themselves ... just creating a flow, and not worrying about "song" ideals, and meaning in the lyrics ... 

It kinda reminds me of a couple of Peter Handke's plays that were ... literally ... 7569 pickup ... it became known somewhat as "word plays", but there are no sentences and no "points" or directions for any of the words for any of these short plays ... they are horribly difficult to do on stage for actors, simply because it would be better to just go ahead and do any word in the vocabulary and not have to follow any idea or dictum about performance or staging ... something which is very "krautrock" ... again, designed to not be like any Western based music as Holger Czukay specified in the CAN website a long time ago ... it was about the continuation of the sound, and idea ... without any of the known ideas and precepts about music, or stage, or literature.

Difficult stuff to do on stage and almost no one takes the chance as this can be difficult for an audience ... specially if they don't know it ... 

We did one of these plays at UCSB, and it went well, but you could tell by the audience that ... wow ... what is this about ... and I am not sure they ever realized that ... what it was about, was NOT ... what it was all about.

We're kinda stuck on this idea that everything has to be about something, and can not just live on its own and by itself ... it's a very different thing that can only be found in the arts, but is not enjoyed or appreciated much ... and I'm really happy to see some folks saying some nice things about NEU ... 
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I quite liked the opening track from their second album. However, the second side is apparently replete with just 1 song played back at different tempos, isn't it? Apparently, the band had ran out of money at this point and just recorded side 2 like that.

I listened to their third record as well, but was disappointed by this. Couple of tracks on the first side lacked energy to me and whilst things picked up on the second side, they were accompanied by truly bad vocals.
