why cant these guys get a place in the
PROGARCHIVES?

Their early releases deserve to be here!

Were they deemed by the English press as being to
POP or AOR, surely we have better sense here in the
forum than to be swayed by the press, they are one
of the forefathers and without we have less
foundation to the spirit of progressive rock. No matter
if they choose the mainstream later in their career.
Genesis, ELP and many others are guilty of this
crime!

I may have to agree.

If we are already on topic, what are some of ELO's best albums? whats recommended?

HI Dallas,

This has been discussed before and I would agree for them being prog for the first five albums (Until the Eldorado album), but for some reason , many of us feel they they should not be because of the super-poppish almost disco period that followed those five albums.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

then eliminate Pink Floyd for there experimental
psychotic episodes in the mid to late 60's. Eliminate
ELP for Love Beach and classical piano period, Yes
for putting out pseudo prog for way to many albums,
Genesis for there commercial pop periods, Soft
Machine for only having a half of a good album, King
Crimson for a career of so so avant noise, the whole
Canterbury scene for making about 3-4 interesting
albums outside of the British infacuation, Gryphon
for making one half of a good album and so on!

the WHOLE NEO PROG GENRE for never making an
original album!

you guys site! do what you want, it makes for
interesting blurbage...

Don't worry people have asked for Slipknot before (the stupid ones like Metalman etc), over my but don't worry that idea was in the bin, many feel Queen should be added I have an 50/50 feel towards of that.

I think Electric Light Orchestra is at the same level as Alan Parsons Project, John Miles, Traffic and Al Stewart. I think it's very close to prog but Yes, ELP, Camel, Jethro Tull, etc are much more prog.

I think because Alan Parsons is mentioned in the prog archives, ELO and the Move should be too (I think ELO is even more prog than Talk Talk and Roxy Music are)

Right down the line

I thought they must be on the site, but evidently not. After first noticing this thread earlier this week, I listened to Out of the Blue, and though missing gratuitous moog solos, this album sounds prog to me, if some other albums by other artists are any indication.

And, though not a rabid fan, why can't something be prog if tainted with a bit of disco? That vibe certainly taints some of the other product found herein....

Vive Gong!
