I never realised there were so quite many Italian prog albums released in 1981, given that only four of these albums are in PA's Top 100 for that year. Anyway, I've left a space at the bottom of the poll this time for adding any albums I may have missed out, after neglecting to include Goblin in the last Italian prog poll.

Ditto, of course. L'aldilą (The Beyond) is one of my favourite soundtracks, and albums in PA period. I gave it five stars with my sucky review of it. |

Hi, Paul ... how can you say that? Italy, probably has the greatest history of music of all countries in Europe, second to none, and we're talking many years, not just a few. Classical music alone (specially operas) have been a part of their history to no end in sight. In our case (Guy's SPR and myself), at Moby Disk, the majority of "imports" were Italian, German and French, as I think about it and tend to think they probably were the majority of works, though a lot of English stuff was eventually a part of it courtesy of Pink Floyd, for example. But Guy had a touch for the Kinks and knew the history of the music in England really well and every now and then he shows it off ... in a few special shows. There were many other things from other places in Europe. Eventually it translated to a lot more, and the Internet has shown this to be the case and true. I can add one ... UNO ... which had a cover by Hipgnosis!

^ Yes, it's true. If it wasn't for the Internet, I wouldn't have heard of any of these bands, and that includes the Big 3 of Italian Prog: Banco, Le Orme & PFM.

Free Wave System's only release is a beauty and my pick. In the jazz rock fusion department and not electronic as I feel their name implies. I need to spin this.

Even if this album is quite pop oriented, Battiato belongs to a higher league

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution
