Where's Tangerine Dream? No doubt it would be the one with the most vote. Just weird, it's like a poll of the best England prog without Genesis Voted for Can. I could hardly decide between them and TD, but since TD is not there... |

Eloy and Novalis I can very well live without. Eloy are what I call "bombast rock" (lots of billowing and wafting keyboards piled upon each other playing "majestic" themes. "The Queen turned up her nose at the king, spun graciously on her heel, wrapping her silken purple robe around her, and fell down the castle stairs".) Also Frank Bornemann of "Eloy" has a horrible German accent. Novalis have the worst drummer of all times, which, being a drummer myself, disqualifies them from being listened to. Ash Ra Tempel should be mentioned, of course!!! And Agitation Free!!!! Faust!!!! Embryo (one of the most important bands!!!!) Dzyan!!! The Cosmic Jokers!!! Karthago (they were mainstream prog though and not typically Kraut). Wallenstein. Brainstorm!!! I could go on endlessly..... |

Faust is missing too. It is not easy to pinpoint right options for such a poll. There are few people with complete knowledge of German prog. scene. Also, German progsters covered so many music genres that it is virtually impossible to start fair poll without being caught in the trap of favoring personal preferences. On the other hand, attempt to be unbiased leads to inevitable inclusion of Triumvirat J just for sake of having them listed. I would say that Gila, Out Of Focus, Embryo and Cosmic Jokers are missing too. Maybe someone would rather notice Gaa or Achim Reichel and Machines being missed, Anyways, my favorites Kraan and Grobschnitt are on the list.

Neu, La Düsseldorf, Kraftwerk, Michael Rother could get filed as a Düsseldorf Style like Canterbury. All these musicians came from Düsseldorf or the region, played together and were influenced by the industrial "monotone" rhyhtms of this area, with an ironic touch especially for Kraftwerk and Neu. Krupps : Stahlwerksymphonie , another Band from this town is another good example of this industrial music. Edited by Alucard |

Can , AD II , Vuh and Guru in your list for the early 70's. Grobschnitt had good albums. Jane and Birth Control were really more Hard Rock at first. |
