I just happened to see this topic quite randomly, and I like the concept (be great for covering many different countries).

If one act, then Swans: My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky, The Seer, To be Kind, The Glowing Man, leaving meaning. :)

Assuming that "American" means U.S., I've got to stop myself from nominating three or four Swans albums, but there's other good stuff...
