Morning! Needs some advice on music style. Is the link below prog rock? Youtube algorithm keeps stacking my tracks amongst the greats like King Crimson and Pink Floyd. Obviously I'm not complaining! I need to know what hashtags and metadata to give the songs when I upload so any advice would be great! Personally, I think it sounds like its got 1 foot in the 70s and one elsewhere - like 90s grunge or D&B - but old Youtube is sure its prog!

Link to songs:

Thank you in advance,

Delian.

Hi,

Welcome to PA.

The only advice I have in regards to any "art", or work of "art" ... is ... worry more about yourself and what your mind sees and you are able to color ... and less about what anyone thinks or says ... in the end, look at the history of the arts and it was the individuality that won out, not exactly the acceptance by "fans" ... even though this is the 21st century and a lot of the places that you show the music, is full of folks that think the artist is the fan's next "slave" and can not have an opinion, or a special ability, or create their own work, since they will say that the next album or equivalent, is not as good when they tire of it ...

Do not, under any conditions, take my comments as "law" ... I'm a writer about music and foreign film, and I gave up looking for "attention" some 20 years ago, and don't spend my time "advertising" myself ... me, and my body are not for sale, so to speak.

Hopefully you can find something of a better idea of what you want to find and hear ... and I'm still listening to the samples in the link ... very enjoyable and for my tastes ... it's great to not have to hear some more pedestrian rock, labelled as "prog".

I agree wholeheartedly! I serve the songs. Period. What I'm unsure about is the damn Youtube algorithm showing the tunes to the right earlobes - what tags to give it and whatnot in the metadata. Is it even possible to grab a modicum of the leviathan rudder from The Youtube and get the music into folks like yourselves who enjoy it? (Cheers BTW!)

Hi,

You and I ... can not determine where the music goes, despite our efforts to decide that here, or there, or somewhere else, is the place to go ... and maybe have the chance to meet new folks ... it is a side of things that is difficult to work around these days, but I'm not sure that the "individuality" is ever going to lose its way, despite all this commercial thought and designs. While the toob is fine, it is also a commercial endeavour and its designs are to make sure they can get a person to go see/catch something similar to what they heard, or played, simply to get more advertising hits.

I come from a literary family (Portuguese/Brazilian/Spanish) and met many folks in that are in my time, and they were more concerned with their own "continuation" in terms of their work, than they were in anything else, since they knew rather well, that things were like Hollywood ... one jerk gets a job for a million, and at least 10K actors do not even get a $100 dollars a month! Hypocrisy will state that there are too many actors, of course ... and the record company, or commercial environment will state something similar, though they won't make it so obvious ... on top of it, and sadly enough, there is not a whole lot you or I can do to "make it" ... all you can do is concentrate on your work, and hopefully it will be accepted and remembered.

I can tell you though, that in my dad's library (most of it now in Lisbon), there used to be a huge amount of Brazilian and Spanish writers, that did not have their work indexed (1980's!!!) and the graduate students in Santa Barbara were helping with that, but it was all stopped when dad passed away. So, I don't have a number, but I can tell you that it was not just a handful of writers, either, but in the end ... it didn't seem to matter to anyone, and some even think I'm being just a jerk complaining.

The reality ... sometimes ... the reality ... sometimes ...

Hi,

At the very least, I am still listening to it all now! Been almost on all the pieces, now doing the whole album.

Very nice and interesting for me! I love the multi media style of things and the experimental and crazy ideas it brings forth!

How'd the album grab you, man? Still in the prcess of track-by-track mixing, arranging, and mastering. But it's getting there. The play order is different and their is a few different songs swapped in and out. I like to think it's a little journey for the mind.

Hi,

I like it ... love the mind gymnastics. I am not sure, for me, that the order will change the feeling of the whole thing.

To me, this is a very specific style/thing in music that is not always as appreciated as it should ... I think a lot of folks are a bit on the lazy side and want the "lyrics" to tell them what it is all about, but I have no issue with something of a visual nature, where it is all about how/what you see. To me that is "progressive" since it challenges your mind, and I do not see a lot of the solo'ing stretching much of anything more often than not as is the case in most prog/progrock, or what I like to call "pedestrian rock music" ... not to hurt the artists, but as a way to suggest that things could be a lot less commercial sounding.

I neither like being spoon-fed or spoon-feeding. Music, opinion here, is supposed to take you, via your own imagination on a journey. Progressive rock music, that is. Less about the musician and more about the forms themselves. The ancient forms. So, the lyrics and solos have a place but are apatifs to wet the imagination. Spoken samples or music concrete does the lifting - in some of my tunes. Others do have lyrics and are part of the story as a whole.

I upladed a short idea for a middle section that's hit almost 500 views in a day - which took about 2hrs to record. The songs which take months get no more than 2 or 3 hundred views in a week. Youtube's algorithm is so messed up.

Demo of the entire album: Lullabies & Other Whims of the Dying Kind.

King Crimson, meets Pink Floyd, meets Nirvana, meets the relic sound of the early 70s sweaty dance halls.

I introduce to you: GrungeTrip. The next phase of progressive rock (And Folk)
