This one was harder but The Future Kings Of England for sure, and Frogg Cafe, especially with the bonus of Frumpy being part of that choice. I went Finnforest for the third choice, but Froese and Far Corner are great too. It's also nice to see Factor Burzaco listed here.
Fates Warning would be one I would mention that's a fav not on here. |

I prefer the 26 I listed, but I do encourage others to list their favourites regardless of whether they are on the list. Just to re-quote some of what I wrote in the original post in case any miss it now that we are on page two:
By the way, with only 25 spaces (although I stretched it to 26) for most of the letters I will be leaving off personal favourites (some I will sadly fail to recollect). I am choosing albums based more on my liking than overall popularity. The Flower Kings is well-known, I like some of its music, but it's not a favourite of mine. If this was not coming from a place of personal preference then I would include The Flower Kings. Of those I mentioned not in the poll in the original post, I would sooner have added Fresh Maggots than TFK. Edited by Logan - August 22 2024 at 23:18 |

Anyway, I have not voted, hard being my preferences.
Fishmans has no votes and I adore music by this Japanese act, so that's an easy vote. I am tempted by the Future Sound of London and John Frusciante which have no votes, but I will go with Froese and Faust. No, Frizzi and Faust for my second and third votes. |

I was looking back through these topics for other mentions, especially obscure ones that I am not familiar with, but...
While I already responded to this post, I could have been more productive and thoughtful in response. Although I suspect that it was just because The Flower Kings is a popular name, so you would expect it for that reason (rather than because of this list being based on my tastes which might have been missed), as you seemed surprised that it wasn't on my list, I am willing to give The Flower Kings another shot. I would hope that such a topic can lead to mutual discovery, a wider palette, and changes in passions. What would you recommend to me? Preferably a track that isn't very long. Back in early 2005 when looking to update my music tastes as I felt too stuck in the 70s (LOL, TFK was not the best for that), I did buy Space Revolver on CD. It did not click despite me being more into Symphonic Prog then than now. It felt sloppy and gratuitous and for me maybe was too guitar solo oriented or flashy? been so long and I gave it to a friend along with some other mistakes of purchases which include Spock's Beard and Transatlantic . I have since heard various TFK music that I like, like from the much later Waiting for Miracles, but I can't say I ever became a fan. It does have some of that Yes sound and despite loving Fragile as a teenager, yes is not one of my favourites. As said, of course these polls cover ones that I particularly like, and I don;t know how to describe my tastes well. Atmospheric one person said, and that's true. I also tend to favour psychedelia, and I like a lot of folk, experimental music, drone, even noise... I tend not to be into so-called melodic rock or metal much and tend to steer clear of AORish stuff and a lot of Arena Rock. I think the playlist in my sig where I took two tracks from two different albums per some artists I am into gives a clue. My favourite categories at PA are Krautrock, RIO/Avant, Post-Rock, Zeuhl, Canterbury, Prog Folk, Electronic, like lots in Psyche and JRF.... I wish we had a topic where all of the forum would come together to explore each other's diverse and less known tastes. To me an essential ingredient of forum like this is getting to know better what each other like, and coming to appreciate that to whatever extent. To me that part of growing together in music. We are in this together, and it's that personal interest in people, what they like, think and say, that sometimes can feel lacking in online communities (well, in offline life too). By the way, I would have pegged you to mention Focus on the list as one you like, so it's hard to predict how others will react or what to expect from them. I could be mistaken, but I thought I recalled you being an admirer of Jan Akkerman. Edited by Logan - September 20 2024 at 19:43 |
