A-Z of Psychedelic Rock

THE FALCONS    Apparently, The Falcons are from Germany, although you'd never guess from the lead singer's crystal-clear English accent, so there's no chance of him being Misunderstood. Intriguingly though, on the back of the album cover, two of the band members are listed as being from "Schottland", which I presume is German for Scotland. Smile

A-Z of Psychedelic Rock

THE FALLEN ANGELS      A local Washington DC psych band who never quite managed to break on through to the other side of national mega-stardom, but still found It's a Long Way Down to fall after they were dropped like a hot brick from their record label, following the commercial failure of their second album. A familiar story of high hopes and shattered dreams as old as rock & roll itself. Confused

FANTASY      Is this the real life, or is this just fantasy..... Miami-based band Fantasy must have wished they could escape from reality back in 1969 when their lead singer went missing and then turned up dead! Ouch Black clouds and silver linings though, because the band then went out and hired 16-year-old Lydia Janene Miller, a kick-ass singer with a rough powerful voice in the tradition of Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. Fantasy's one and only album sadly went nowhere though, falling off the radar like a flaming lead zeppelin. The band broke up shortly after the album's release, but they weren't quite through yet as they reunited and started all over again in a band called Year One. Smile

4 stars 1970: Fantasy - Fantasy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvLiAsXgRfw

Fantasy - They came, they saw, they conked out. Cry

THE FANZ     Be under no Illusion, this is a raw and earthy psychedelic blues jam with poor production, so one for The Fanz only. You'd be better off listening to Styx.  Tongue

FAR EAST FAMILY BAND      The Japanese Pink Floyd! Far East Family Band are one of two legendary Japanese psych bands (the other one being Flower Travellin' Band), which features none other than Kitaro and Hirohito Fukushima. They're atomic! Smile

FAR OUT      An all-time favourite Japanese psych album from Far Out, the forerunners of the Far East Family Band. Nihonjin fits like a Hand in Glove amongst classic Psychedelic Rock albums. You don't have to take my word for it though. Just ask O.J. Simpson, where, if the glove fits, wear it, as the saying goes. Smile

FAT MATTRESS     Fat Mattress were a short-lived, bluesy Psychedelic Pop band led by Noel Redding (1945-2003), best-known as the frizzy-haired bassist with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The first Fat Mattress album was a modest success, but the second album was cast away like an old mattress with rusty springs by the record-buying public and the band decided to go their separate ways in late 1970.

FAT WATER      Yes, there really is a beauty product called Fat Water which is meant to tone the skin and not make you look fat. Alternatively, Fat Water are a Psychedelic Rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Smile

A-Z of Psychedelic Rock

FEAR ITSELF     A short-lived band from Atlanta, Georgia, led by psychedelic hippie blues goddess Ellen McIlwaine. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said in his inaugural address back in 1933, "The only thing we have to fear is Fear Itself", which could just as easily apply to the weird and crazy year of 2020, when sanity took an extended vacation. Wacko

FEATHER DA GAMBA    Italian translation: Feather for the Leg, although I'm guessing the closest these guys have ever been to Italy is watching a spaghetti western at a movie theater. Arrivederci. Smile

FEDERAL DUCK    A short-lived band from Haverford, Pennsylvania whose life expectancy turned out to be as brief as a duck at a shooting gallery.
It's a nice album to feather your nest with though. Quack-quack.

FILET OF SOUL       Sweet soulful psych from Wisconsin. By all accounts, Filet of Soul's Freedom is a rare album, but how much is it worth to a serious collector of obscure psych? Well, that's like asking how much a piece of paper is worth, although the denizens of Dragons Den appear to have the answer. Smile

A-Z of Psychedelic Rock

FIRE     A Croatian hard rock band who take obscurity to new levels of oblivion, although they were probably the hottest happening in Zagreb for a brief time. Not surprisingly, Fire only made one album and despite relocating to Holland in the hope of selling a few more albums, their record company said, "You're Fired!" Ouch

FIRE (U.K.)      From Croatian Fire to U.K. Fire, it's a psychedelic concept album for fans of the Strawbs,   featuring Dave Cousins, Paul Brett & Dave Lambert. The Magic Shoemaker (who probably hails from Northampton) was notable for being produced by Tony Clarke - the sixth Moody Blue. Fire didn't exactly set the world alight, but it's an album for collectors, so it  should appeal to Imelda Marcos. Smile

FIVE DAY RAIN     The outlook is for sunny spells followed by five days of rain - just another typical week's weather in sunny old England, and when BBC weather forecaster Michael Fish tells you, "Don't worry. There isn't a hurricane on the way", that's when it's time to batten down the hatches and prepare for The Storm of the Century! Geek

THE FIVE DAY WEEK STRAW PEOPLE      Although you may not be familiar with the bizarrely-named Five Day Week Straw People. this obscure one-off album project was conceived by none other than John Du Cann - the powerhouse behind such bands as Andromeda, The Attack and Atomic Rooster - whose chickens have come home to roost! No, I've no idea what that peculiar turn-of-phrase means either. Tongue
