^ I enjoyed 3 Body problem, especially for the China parts.  Some of the English-language performances  I found annoying and dialogue risible  There was a Chinese adaptation called Three-Body of the novels that came out not that long before it, which I started on because they made the first episode free.  I did prefer that but then I tend to favour slower-paced fare and commonly gravitate towards non-English language/ non-American productions (that said, Westworld, Fargo, Twin Peaks, The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass,The Twilight Zone, Star Trek TOS, The Invaders etc. are some of my very favourite shows, so never mind).   The US and Brits have made huge amounts of great TV.  That said, on Netflix I often turn to the Scandinavian ones.

I finally finished Copenhagen Cowboy and loved it on the whole.  I watched the first episode when it came out last year, but then returned to it last night.  The second episode totally hooked me.  It does move at something of a glacial pace, it might be thought of as style over substance, but I loved it.  I love the score which brought to my mind some Wendy Carlos (definitely get The Shining Vivbes for the music and show) and of a favourite soundtracdk of mine, Cat People by Giorgio Moroder.  I loved the cinematography, the frames within frames, the lond focus of gazes, the colours, the atmosphere, and it could be quite funny in a very absurdist and dark way sometimes.  Like a father who is having specialists design a certain part of the anatomy, saying it can be bigger and more imaginative, for his son after it gets chewed off by a pig.  the show did bring t5o mind things like Lynch, Kubrick, Argento, John Carpenter and Wim Wenders to me.  Nicolas Winding Refn is the man behind it, and I need to explore his work more.  Like with music, I tend to appreciate the atmosphere that is created, and even as young child I gravitated more to the 2001: A Space Odyssey kind of filmmaking than Star Wars,

I love the soundtrack which does have an 80s feel to it.  I would have liked more resolution, but this got me excited about TV all over as an artform.

^ I loved 3 Body Problem. I may watch the Chinese version sometime - 28 episodes in series 1.

Finished American Horror Story season 12 last night. Pretty crap tbh. I think they need to stop now.

Finally we get a decent episode of House Of The Dragon. I was wondering when something was going to happen!

Nearly through 3 Body Problem and enjoying it. Liam Cunningham is great but it's mainly about the writing and some very good special effects. The scene with the ship especially standing out. Nasty!

and talking of 'nasty' Mirzapur Season 3 has just arrived. Inspired by Peaky Blinders apparently, this is a Hindi language crime drama set you know where. Love it.

Noooooooooo. Whilst I knew season 2 of the incredible Severance was on the way, it's not due for release until 17 Jan 2025. I really can't wait. If you haven't seen the first series, just do it - a brilliant TV show.

Interview With the Vampire season2. Dragged a bit at the beginning, but improved quite a lot at the end. A season 3 is coming as well. 8/10

Resident Alien Season 3. One of my favourite shows and I can't praise Alan Tudyk highly enough as 'Harry'. Should be winning Emmy's left, right and centre but it's a sci fi comedy show and so doesn't get the attention it deserves. 9/10

BTW it has been renewed for a 4th Season.

Half way through this new Aussie police drama on BBC iPlayer - High Country. Not bad but a bit cliched.

^ I watched the first episode of that. Thought it was okay but nothing special.

If you want a mad Aussie drama then there is a thing on ITVX called 'Bay Of Fires'. It's very Tarantinoesque violent at times but then often comes across as a dark comedy. Mostly set in Tasmania which seems to be the Australian version of Wales going by the strange characters inhabiting it.Wink

Just finished watching Season 1 of Columbo. An intelligent and well put together tv series. I plan on watching all the other Seasons of it. (as well as the first season, I have seasons 4 and 5 on dvd, as well)
Actor Peter Falk was an amazing person; he functioned incredibly with one eye; sad to hear in his final years, he suffered from dementia.

^ The king of the seventies detectives for sure (although I enjoyed Kojak a lot). The clever device of making it known who did the murder and then see Columbo gradually encircle his prey by seeming to be a buffoon and thereby knocking them off guard was just genius. Loved it to death and you see it's continuing impact and influence in modern TV shows such as the vastly inferior Death In Paradise.

hey, thanks, Richard...I remember Kojak..."Who loves ya, baby?"-I would love to see that show again, as well. I am also a big fan of the original Hawaii 5-0 (the remake doesn't do it justice) but, yes, Columbo is the king of the seventies detectives, for sure....

Don't bother with the rest of High Country - it's not great.

^ Noted thanks.

Just finished crime drama The Jetty. Only 4 episodes and starring Jenna Coleman (she was the 'impossible girl' in Doctor Who). I found it very emotional at times. Intense stuff and worthy of a binge 8/10

Vikings: Valhalla Season 3. The last series of this Viking saga. It's a good watch but not a patch on the original Vikings. Much of it takes place well away from Scandinavia - Sicily, Constantinople etc.

Hi,

Been watching it ... with only one comment ... it took me 5 episodes to not feel confused and dizzy from a back-less story?

At least the original, GoT, had its story right from the start, and it made it a lot easier to follow ... the HoD is a bit of a mess in that area, with too many factions doing their own thing and confusing the story too much ... I think they decided that getting rid of some characters with a dragon or two, was the path to take to simplify the story ... but taking over 6 hours to get that far?

In most movies we would have left a long time ago!

The Boys Season 4. The twisted humour is as enjoyable as ever but for me this felt like a 'holding season' until it really all kicks off in Season 5 (confirmed to be the last). Also getting rid of one of the most interesting characters in the season 4 finale feels like a bit of a mistake, but we'll see. Someone significant has to die I suppose! 7/10

Re-watching The Crown.    A superb series, whether you like the Royals or not.

Finished Season 4 today. I agree about that 'holding' season feeling. Episode 5 with the farm animals wa a blast. It'll be interesting to see how they end the series considering they have plans to continue the world of The Boys with spinoffs. Gen V season 2 is next and a series to be set in Mexico. Though, I would put the over/under that half of the cast is offed in Season 5.

do you think it matters whether it is accurate or not? Just interested. I watched the first 2 seasons and enjoyed them but the cast change for Season 3 (Olivia Coleman for Claire Foy) was way too jarring so I gave up.
I though John Lithgow portrayal of Winston Churchill was outstanding and he deserved his Emmy. Matt Smith made a great Duke Of Edinburgh as well.
