definitely Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

not a good year, though: Coltrane, Davis and both Evans didn't do VG albums.

though Mingus had two other worthy albums:
Mingus (x5) and the one he did with Duke and Roach called Money Jungle.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

I'm going with Getz/Gilberto over The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady.  That Mingus is a grand album, but  Getz/Gilberto is just the kind of cool I need during the heat wave here.

Most jazzfans (and casual jazzfans) will put The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady on top for this year. I appreciate the ambition an I do acknowledge it's greatness, but it's too much big band brass-workout for me to fully cherish. Here's fifteen albums genuinely I love:

Duke Ellington, Charlie Mingus & Max Roach  - Money Jungle
François Rabbath - The Sound of a Bass
Chico Hamilton Quintet - Passin' Thru
Prince Lasha Quintet Featuring Sonny Simmons - The Cry!
Sun Ra - When Sun Comes Out
Herbie Mann - Herbie Mann Returns to The Village Gate
Ahmed Abdul-Malik - Sounds of Africa
Grant Green - Feelin' the Spirit
John Coltrane Quartet - Ballads
The Bob James Trio - Bold Conceptions
Eric Dolphy - Conversations
Kenny Dorham - Matador
John Coltrane - Impressions
The Chico Hamilton Quintet - A Different Journey
The Joe Harriott Quintet - Abstract

-Money Jungle would have gotten my vote if it was in the poll, but out of the ones that are, I'm gonna give it to Getz/Gilberto. It's just perfect for what it is. Sun Ra and Coltrane second and third.

-Also I love a lot of Nina Simone and Julie London - but I don't consider them in a "classic US Jazz" context. That's not what they are primarely about). Same goes for the easy listening/exotica of Les Bazter - and Lalo Schifrin.
