Just wondering what your favourite bands/albums from this genre would be? There is just something about this genre at this time of year. Especially with it being Midsommer recently. The sound of getting back to nature and away from all distractions.

Borders can blur with 'acid folk' (psychedelic folk...) but....I'm a fan of...
Roy Harper
Robyn Hitchcock Circulus Espers Trees Fuchsia Forest Gryphon Spirogyra Dando Shaft Broselmachine Mellow Candle Tyrannosaurus Rex Fresh Maggots ........many others fall into this area but also crossover into more mainstream folk rock music like Fairport Convention. Steeleye Span, Nick Drake, etc. Edited by dr wu23 - June 23 2024 at 15:50 |

Some of these are arguable, as they might be more associated with the psychedelic era. But I contend they belong also to the Acid/Wyrd/Freak Folk genre:
Older Days:
Pearls Before Swine Donovan The Byrds (arguably) Tim Buckley Country Joe and the Fish (arguably) Incredible String Band CSN, CSNY (arguably) Roy Harper It's A Beautiful Day H P Lovecraft The Jefferson Airplane (arguably) Joseph Pusey Traffic Kaleidoscope (US) Nick Drake Yellow Autumn Ars Nova More Contemporary: Vincent Carr's SUMIC The Owl Service Azam Ali Dead Can Dance Offa Rex FAUN Burd Ellen Midlake (arguably) Lyrre Richard Wileman Espers MOURA Harp Meg Baird Edenya The Decemberists Ryan Shirlow Magick Brother and Mystic Sister Edited by Snicolette - June 26 2024 at 07:35 |

I may have blurred that distinction further with my long lists of folk albums.

I think the distinction should be blurred, it's a blend, after all.

There's definitely a substantial overlap between Psychedelic and Progressive Folk, but it also seems to me that many albums can be clearly labelled as one or the other of these two subgenres.
