Psychedelicatessen

DOGFEET      Why not paws for thought for a moment and check out Dogfeet, who sound like your typical bronzed, Californian west coast surfer dudes, but who are actually from the town of Shrewsbury in the landlocked county of Shropshire, England, where you don't see too many surf boards.  

DORIAN GRAY      A German band with a female singer who sounds like she's singing in Japanese, but don't worry, it's definitely not Yoko Ono. The unusual album title isn't a spelling mistake and (according to the album blurb) Dorian Gray aren't to be confused with a Croatian band of the same name - as if anyone will have heard of an obscure rock band from the former Yugoslavia! 

DRAGONFLY       A Colorado band who were previously known as The Legend but changed their name to match the artwork on their album cover - although you'd be hard-pressed to find a Dragonfly on there.  

THE DREAM      Dream on if you thought this band are from California's west coast. No, The Dream are a Viking Psychedelic Rock band from Norway (although the Scandinavian accents might be a giveaway), featuring guitarist Terje Rypdal, who's not exactly a household name in Great Britain or America but no doubt well-known throughout the Norwegian fjords. 

CLEAR LIGHT      A standout classic shining like a bright beacon in the psychedelic spectrum, Clear Light were managed by legendary Doors producer, Paul Rothchild. 

EARTH OPERA       An East Coast psych band from Boston, MA, just a stone's throw away from a famous bar where everyone knows your name. Cheers! 

EASTFIELD MEADOWS    Flightless Byrds? Eastfield Meadows were a short-lived Californian Country Rock group with a light tinge of psychedelia in the style of The Byrds, but without their success. 

THE EDGAR BROUGHTON BAND     Led by a singer who sounds like he eats gravel for breakfast, the Edgar Broughton Band were the quintessential bad boys of British psych, having been banned from performing in several British towns and cities in the wake of their notorious reputation for their concerts becoming quite literally riotous occasions of civil disorder - long before the punk rockers came along and upset the political applecart.  

THE ELASTIC BAND      A Psychedelic Rock band from Wrexham in Wales, but listening to this mind expanding album, you can almost picture a wild Californian party filled with groovy hippie chicks - 

at a stretch.
