For my Design and Technology project, I made a kinetic sculpture based on Dark Side of the Moon. I just wanted to post on here to get some feedback from potential stakeholders (prog fans) so thank you for having a look! The Design: The product consists of the album cover, split up over six cogs that are connected and rotate, causing the iconic album cover to spin and get separated. After two full rotations of the central cog it all lines back up again. You can rotate the model using a piece of string that's connected at the back. There are also some hooks so you can hang the product on your wall with either string or nails. Issues and Fixes: There are a few problems that I must point out about my project. The main one of these is that it is quite stiff to spin. This is because there is quite a bit of friction between the cogs and the frame. You can see this in the video below as the model slows at some points. A great way I could overcome this next time is to use ball bearings. This allows for a smoother motion and also make it easier to turn. Another issue is the quality of the paint finish on the product. There are some black spots on the paintwork, this was from dust in the workshop. To prevent this from happening again I could store the project in a cleaner environment where no dust can get on it. I would also use spray paint to do the colours (instead of acrylic) as it gives a nicer finish! Some questions I need to ask are:
