Those corners are a real nuiscance. In my old house I had 2 to contend with as well as fireplace that stuck out. Now in my new house it's much better although there is still a corner with a door. Generally the sound is decent although I do definitely get better sound from the left speaker. It's a floor standing speaker but I've had to treat it like a cabinet speaker for the sake of getting a cabinet into the allotted space. I've then raised the right speaker off the floor by putting it on a small table which is out of view. Altogether much happier. ( i do have a turntable but it's to the side of the camera in another corner)

The best thing for perfect sound is acoustic treatment. Bass traps (6" min.) in the corners and spot treatment (2" min.) elsewhere.

The picture shows exaggerated toe in, mine are very slight maybe 12mm toe in. Again it’s a free tweak to play with speaker position. |

But I can add that if to try make some more objective conclusions, it has to be on basis of listening tests and inter-subjectivity. |

That's step one......Now try pulling them away from the back wall at least 1m and the soundstage will get better as well. When ur done listening then you can push them back.

Well, that would be a proper audiophile setup, but I guess, JD has made his choices.

This is for sure good news, for us vinyl lovers. Finally a new pressing machine is available for plants to purchase, most plants are working with presses that are from the 60s-70s probably and need retooling, which is probably too cost prohibitive.
The fact that 30 of these have been ordered since the announcement is positive news that the vinyl resurgence is alive and well.....Not that it actually ever went away as some think, so resurgence is a loose term. |

^I spent most of my career in the injection moulding business, but big ones, 1500 - 4000 metric ton clamp range. I always thought, if I won the loto, I might open up a small custom pressing business. I project managed a bunch of these types of "automation cell" for part assembly in the automotive sector. I'm guessing one might cost between $2 & $4 million installed depending on possible available features.

I’m very proud of my vinyl collection. 50 years of collecting NM copies of everything I’ve loved over the years. Nice cabinets to store them in. A decent system to play them on. It’s a great hobby, but I buy CDs regularly as well. As for sound, I believe that it’s vinyls lack of digital precision that makes it sound warmer and fills room with an imperfect sound that I know and love from my youth, like a concert. But I don’t diss the perfection of CD quality. I try to stay away from vinyl re-issues that were just copied from a CD. But it’s hard to determine that. My best example of poor re-issued vinyl would be Hawkwind 180 gram re-issues I bought. The original vinyl outclasses the re-issues noticeably. I’d go as far as to say the reissues I bought are garbage with nice packaging.

It absolutely kills me when they advertise vinyl releases with big HypeStickers "CUT FROM 24 BIT/96KHZ FILES". Ok...so maybe I'll just buy the CD then.

Yep the vinyl edition I have of ELP - Brain Salad Surgery is very poor, the Sony CD reissue beats it into a cocked hat.

As I've heard it over many years and comparing hundreds of all-analog and digital copies, all-analog productions are in general much more detailed than CDs, especially in the high frequences and with much musical data.

Most if not all new vinyl releases are cut from 24bit or 32bit files, those are better than CD quality. So you would have to buy Hi-Res files that run almost as much as records, then you have to have a super-dooper DAC to play them. The CD is a down-sampled version of these 24bit masters because of redbook restrictions. When they cut a lacquer from 24/32 bit digital there is no down-sampling needed, I have tons of records cut from digital that sound fantastic, much better than the CD version. For example all Porcupine Tree records sound light years better than the CD versions........That being said I would prefer AAA records.

I think the comparisons between vinyl and CD (or other digital formats) are similar to the comparisons between analog and digital photography.
Digital photography can be very precise and high definition. But analog photography has genuine dimension because it is a physical medium capturing the actual effect of light. When you look at an analog photograph, you're looking into it. It feels like you can jump through into its world. You can feel it. Digital photography, no matter how precise in accuracy and colour, etc., is flat. It is a flat image. We can sense its dimension because our human brains have learned to recognise it as an image of a real thing. Although not exactly comparable, vinyl (I'm talking vinyl where the original recording was also analog) gives a more natural, airy sound that is easily recognisable to the ear/brain as sound being produced by instruments.
