CHRIS COOMBS & LIGHTYEARS AWAY/THUNDERMOTHER A rare Psych-Folk classic which featured Bill Nelson (of Be Bop Deluxe) and Brian Wilson (no, not that Brian Wilson) in their line-up, with the album split between Lightyears Away (Tracks 1-8) and Thundermother (Tracks 9-14), including a purr-fect contribution by the Thundermother cats! ![]() ![]() |

I'd be inclined to tell her where to go in no uncertain terms. |

COURTYARD MUSIC GROUP A nonet of singers and musicians from bonnie Scotland with a handmade acoustic album that's billed as the rarest of rare Acid Folk albums. You won't find any studio over-dubs here. ![]() ![]() |

I finally tracked them down and was very pleasantly surprised - prog folk with a bit of psychedelia thrown in, and a sound that could only emanate from the dawn of the 1970's! |

DAVE COUSINS The Voice of the Strawbs! If you only listen to one Dave Cousins album, then try Hummingbird, an album in collaboration with piano player and caped crusader Rick Wakeman that sounds as sweet as nectar. You won't be disappointed, especially if you're a fan of the Strawbs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 07 2024 at 08:21 |

ANDREW CRONSHAW The Mike Oldfield of folk music, multi-instrumentalist Andrew Cronshaw has many strings to his bow - quite literally - having mastered the 44-stringed double-sided marovantele and the 74-stringed electrified chord zither. Well I never! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

KEITH CROSS & PETER ROSS A classic Folk Rock pairing from a short-lived duo who were destined never to record another album again, either separately or together, mainly due to the age-old problem of being dropped by their record company when their debut contained no obvious hit singles and wasn't a great financial success. It's a great album though, featuring CSNY-style close harmonies which'll leave you feeling anything but bored. Think Stealers Wheel, and that's the kind of album you have here, only better! ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 09 2024 at 04:09 |

DANCER From Shide & Acorn a mighty oak has grown... Tales of the Riverbank is Jethro Tull on steroids, being quite simply one of the best Prog Folk albums you're ever likely to hear north of the Isle of Wight, which is where Dancer and Shide & Acorn originally hail from. If this superb 2001 album sounds like it's firmly rooted in the 1970's, then you'd be right. It's not so much an underground album as an underwater album, as Tales from the Riverbank was recorded way back in 1972 but then disappeared below the waves for nearly thirty years before being fished out again for our listening pleasure, where you can now stream it for free at your leisure on YouTube. ![]() Meanwhile, Radio Norwich presenter Alan Partridge discovers to his cost that life on the riverbank is not all plain sailing. ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 10 2024 at 09:31 |

DAWNWIND In days of future passed, Dawnwind could have been as big as Magna Carta, but with a limited album pressing on an unknown independent label, they were predictably doomed for obscurity. ![]() ![]() |

Yes, this blog started off as plain old Prog Britannia, followed by Neo Prog Britannia (Pages 75 to 83), then came Symphonic Prog Britannia (Pages 83 to 88) , and now Prog Folk Britannia, followed by Heavy Prog Britannia sometime next year, which saves me having to start a separate blog for each prog sub-genre if I lump them all together here.

RICHARD DAWSON Dear, Oh dear! This was painful to listen to. Richard Dawson isn't the world's greatest singer (to put it kindly), so why an earth does he try reaching those high notes that only eunuchs and Geddy Lee can reach? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

DEAD SPACE CHAMBER MUSIC Exactly what it says on the label: dark neoclassical Prog Folk for a discerning audience, so you're unlikely to hear them played on BBC Radio 1 FM any time soon, and if you want to quickly clear the house of late-night partygoers who've overstayed their welcome, then look no further than a Dead Space Chamber Music album. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 20 2024 at 02:10 |
